Thanks for the information. I do have the census records and also 1910 the family was living with Elizabeth's (Lizzie)'s uncle, John Neelis.

Now if one of their many children's descendants would come forth and give me more information that would be great :-)

Pat

J., You will find James Crawford, age 72, widower, living with Welsh family, listed as father-in-law, in the 1920 Mackinac County, Marquette township Census. Ancestry.com has it indexed as "Janet Crawford", but it is clearly James and someone has put the correct information in the edit area of Ancestry.
Not my family-just lending a helping hand.
Virginia McAulay Payne

I am trying to find information on James Levie Crafard/Crawford and Annie Halstead Crafard/Crawford. I know they were living in Grant Twp. in 1910. They were both in their 60's so probably didn't live much longer. They were not listed in the 1920 census. Any help would be appriciated. Thanks J. Crafard

Thank you for the reply on my message it's just that I allready have that information. It's just with the two girls being mention in the 1870's census record. Then having only having the one mention in the 1880's census record. If you figure out that the daughter Louisa would be old enough have in got married by the time they took the 1880's census record. Then next thing is hoping some how you are able to try and figure out her married name. With Martha she hasn't remarried it's just it's like she has drop off in this face of earth. With them living up there in cheb . I do now that Martha lived to up in near her one hundred's she really didn't pass away until sometime after the 1920's like it was either 1927 or 1926. I have done everykind of who's who in my family on the search and still no finds of Lousia OR Lany Reeves without having the married last name its just pure frustration of the hitting brick wall

Have been trying to piece to my Great Great Grandparents Gideon, and Martha Reeves family. You see I have found most of the boys in this family,it's now dealing with finding the girls. And this can get trick when you don't have any idea of what there married last names are. The two girls I am talking about is Louisa Reeves, and her younger sister is Lany Reeves. So if there is abody out there who may now what has happen to them. In the last census for Lany Reeves she was living with her parents up in the Tuscarora,Cheboygan Area. And the other sister Louisa Reeves her last time that I know of her showing up in the cesus record was when they were living in Ingham County area in the township of Alaiedon. This was the last time she was in census record. If you could please either let me know where to look for the information. Or if you want more information I have the Reeves side fo your tree or if you think that you could be reltaive then do just like everybody else does.

Hey, I was wondering if anyone knew anything about Angelique melancon. She is the mother of Marie Melancon Oxley and was married to Charles Melancon. Various records have her listed as anglique, angeline, or angelic. Also her children seemed not to know her maiden name exactly because its listed in some records as Moreau, Morrow, Desourdie, or as in the Cheboygan newspaper, Desourdia. She seems to have been born in 1844 and died in 1926.
If you have any information about her, or Oxley, or just was to comment on the fact you're among the same family, then please comment.

Dana Smith

Hi....many errors here. I'd like to give you the correct information but would prefer to do so privately as it is rather complicated. Suffice to say that William is not the son of Benjamin Gerow and Annie Munro. He was the son of Maude and was my father. Your cousin would have no ties to the Munro family other than a possible step relationship. If you will email me privately at millis@shaw.ca I'll fill in the rest of the details.
Hello...we must be some kind of cousin. Allan Munro was my great great grandfather. There are some errors in the information you provided. Oran first married Catherine Hubble. she died in 1845 in Jefferson Co., New York. He then married Mahala (surname unknown). He did not die in 1863 but sometime after 1881 when he appears on the Canadian Census. Catherine and Oran had 6 children:
Perse married Polly Hubble
Allan married Elizabeth Wood Post
Samuel married 4 times, Sarah Ann Hubble, Mary Ann Wescott, Elizabeth Harnden and Matilda Clarke
Oran Milton married Mary Elizabeth Lemmon
Huldah (not Hannah) first married Amiah Hubble and in 1881 married his brother Andrew
Lovica married John Dorie

The geographic area is Oak Lake, Methuen Twp., Peterborough Co., Ontario not Oakdale. Methuen Twp merged with Belmont twp at some point.

I'm curious...which one of the above is your ancestor? I'd love to hear more about your branch.
That is fantastic news. I have talked to the church secretary at St. Casmir in Posen, and she is extremely helpful. At the time I had very little information, so I had few questions to ask. But I'm sure that most of my McFAlda ancestors were born, married, and many died from that parish. I hope to visit some day to get more information. has anyone you know been there?
As an aside, Agnes, the sister of my grandfather and Felix, married Joseph Wozniak, and the Wozniaks are part of our family clan as well. That makes us second or third cousins of Steve Wozniak, the co founder of Apple computers.

I have info from the archives of the Felician sisters in Livonia, Michigan. Two of the daughters of John McFalda , Mary and Helen, entered the Felician order. Their records indicate the following information about their parents:

John Macfalda from Gniedziadz, Poland. Died May 9, 1919 Posen, Mich.
Frances Szmejchel from Szabdy Powiat Brodnica, Poland, died January 21, 1929 Posen, Mich.

I have located what seem to be the two towns in The western part of Poland which (in confirmation of family legend) belongd to Germany in the 19th century.

The spelling Matzalda you found in the 1900 census sounds a lot more Polish.

I am in contact with a Vivian Stinson. She is a descendant of Katherine, sister of John and Tony. She is also posting on Ancestry.com, but in somewhere else on the site and I keep losing contact with her. Its still very confusing to me.

I got the startling news from her that Katherine married Paul Czolgosz, who is also the father of Leon Czolgosz, who assasinated president McKinley. So though he is not a blood relative, that is close enough!! It's fascinating that my mother had mentioned something about a member of our family being a famous murderer, but I brushed it off at the time.

But I am still interested in the Mac/McFalda hame and how it came to be. Does anyone have a marriage certificate from any of Martin's children? that should have more information.

Tim

Dont know if you are still involved after two years!
There seem to be two John McFAldas and two Tonys which makes it confusing. My grandfather is John McFalda born in 1888 in Posen. His father also John apparently was born in Poland.
There were eight children of the elder John, who settled in Posen, one of which was named Tony.

I am fascinated by where the name McFalda came from in a Polish community.

Tim

Beth:
My mother (daughter of John and Frances the younger) has just confirmed the fact that the family name was pronounced Matzalda (she did not know the spelling). She claimed that the change was made by John, but it seems the change would have been made by his siblings as well. Maybe that's where the two spellings come from.
Does anybody have any more information about Martin? How did he spell his name?
Hi Tim! Always nice to hear from "family." I too am a descendant of John (the elder); my g-grandfather Felix MacFalda, b 1884, was (I believe) your grandfather John's oldest brother. (he married Frances and had a son George around 1914, is that the right one?)

John M. emigrated to US/Posen around 1872,and he and his wife Francesca Schmiekel had 10 children between 1878 and 1901, including Felix and John. (Their youngest brother Tony married my great aunt, too, so there is another connection in my family.)

The elder John had two brothers and one sister; his father was Martin MacFalda. Beth (original poster in this topic) is descended from one of those brothers, Tony/Ignatz. The other brother is George, and the sister was Katherine. They all ended up emigrating to Presque Isle county. Martin, George and John are all buried at St. Casimir in Posen.

I have more information if you would like to talk further. We have a theory on the McFalda, but it's nothing more than that right now.

Anne

Yes, Wojciech would be George. He was younger than the others. I have information on all of the children, and I'd be happy to share it with you. I have been to the St. Casimir cemetery and the PI county clerks office for many of the MacFalda records, as well as from the Felicians (you're right, they do have wonderful records). I knew that Aunt Agnes had married a Wozniak, but never made the Apple connection. Email me at annem1(that's a #1)*at* wowway.com and we can talk more. Thanks!

Tim

Yes I am still interested in genealogy. My understanding is that Martin had 4 children (that I know of)John, Katherine, Tony and George McFalda. My line is Martin-Tony-Julia-Joe-me. Some in the family spell the name McFalda and others MacFalda. In the 1900 census the name was spelled Matzalda. Interesting. Tony lived in Alpena then moved to Cheboygan in the early 1900's. Both Tony and his wife Bessie are buried in Cheboygan.

I am on the trail of Catherine and keep coming up cold. All I have to confirm her connection to Michigan is her death certificate. She was born 17 June, 1823 in NY (probably at the Town of Schagticoke, Rensselaer Co.) to Peter and Elizabeth (GRAUBERGER) Weatherwax. She died at Evangeline Twp., Charlevoix Co., MI on 10 February, 1903 at the age of 79 years and 8 months. She was buried in the Bay Springs Burial Ground on 12 February, 1903. I am simply not finding her even though it appears that she was the recipient of surrogate court papers from NY while living in Charlevoix Co. in 1877. It also doesn't help that I am very leery about the spelling of her married surname. The only whiff of a clue I currently have to work with is that the informant on her death certificate was John A. Dornburg.

Hi Marie,
I'm the Tammy you are looking for. I would love to share family information. I only have one picture of Leonard Bassett with his wife, Victoria (Wyktoria) Ostrowski. I'd be happy to share. I was well into my research before I even learned that my grandpa's birth name was Leonard. Everyone called him Pat. Even the firstborn grandson was named Pat.
Hope to hear from you!
Tammy
sound4hound@yahoo.com

I'm trying to get in touch with a Bassett & Leonard researcher who posted a Query to the Cheboygan MIGenWeb Webpage in 1999. Her name was Tammy Meyers and her connection was through Leonard Bassett who was the son of Mary Leonard and Irvin Bassett. Mary was the older sister of my husband's great grandmother Margaret Jane Leonard Buchanan. I have a picture which I believe is of the girls(Mary & Margaret) with their parents and siblings.

Would love to exchange information.
--Marie Beckman Grucz
