I have all info on Eva Ione Day. She was known as Ione Day and lived with her grandmother in Tower until 1931 when her grandmother, Louise Day, died. Eva Mae Day, Ione's mother, (Ione born out of wedlock) married Russel McLaughlin Aug. 1923. Ione was my husband's mother.
My husband never knew ANYTHING about his father. We believe he was born in 1904 because he was 38 when my husband was born in 1943 and Ione was 24.
The attached part of my husband's birth cert. is all we have on John Gilbert Long. We do not know any of his family. We were in Cheboygan this past june & July looking for info and came up with nothing. We found friends and neighbors of the McLaughlin's but no-one knew anything. If you don't get the attachment let me know & I will send you the info.
Kathy

I am still looking for any information on John Gilbert Long, my husband's father, who was in Cheboygan about 1939 and 1942. He may have not been a resident of Cheboygan but visited the city at that time. We heard he might have been a salesman. He was born about 1904 in MO. He was supposed to have been married to Eva Ione Day, Step-daughter of Russell (Sandy) McLaughlin.
Any information on John Long or proof of marriage for John and Ione Day will be appreciated.
Kathy Long

Thankyou for your reply. I would have you look at the 1900 Federal Census for Kalkaska, Mi. Catherine Weatherwax Coan is living with her daughter Hattie Crawford and her childern Fay and Loa. Catherine is 73. This response from Mpk1414 puts John Anson Dornburg in the picture. When she passes she is buried in Bay Springs the home town of John Anson Dornburg. Again,if you come across more information on either the linage of Catherine Weatherwax Coan(Cowan) or John Anson Dornburg, I would appreciate you sharing. Thanks again.

I am working on this couple from the Weatherwax side. This is proving to be a quite a genealogical puzzle. At this point, I really have no answers for you. From what I have been able to find out from censuses, etc., I think Sylvanus/Sylvester Coan and Catherine Weatherwax had been married about 30 years when he died 25 August, 1876. The children I have for them are Ellen Coan (born circa 1847), Orlando Augustus Coan (1849-1937, married 1. Lucinda ?, 2. Dora B. ?), Priscilla Anna Coan (born circa 1853) and Marcia Coan (born circa 1863, married Thaddeus KELLOGG by 1880).

Sylvanus/Sylvester, Catherine and family can be found on the following censuses:

1850 US Census for the Town of Parish, Oswego CO., NY
Taken 17 July, 1850
Name: Sylvenus Coan
Residence: Oswego , New York
Age: 30 years
Estimated Birth Year: 1820
Birthplace: New York, United States
Gender: Male
Film Number: 444293
Image Number: 00287
Reference Number: 27
Dwelling Number: 58
Household ID Number: 58

---------------------------------

1860 US Census for the Town of Parish, Oswego Co., NY
Page Number:17
Lines: 27-31

COAN, Sylvanus. age 40, male, farmer, real estate valued at $1200, personal estate valued at $542, born NY
COAN, Catherine, age 37, female, born New York
COAN, Ellen, age 13, female, born New York
COAN, Orlando, age 10, male, born New York (NOTE: Appears to be son Augustus listed in 1850 USC.)
COAN, Pricilla, age 7, female, born New York

---------------------------------

1870 US Census for the Town of Parish, Oswego Co., NY
Page Number: 4
Lines: 31-35

---------------------------------

As far as I can tell, the last census that Catherine appears on is the 1880, as follows:

1880 US Census for the Town of Parish, Oswego Co., NY
Family History Library Film: 1254915
NA Film Number: T9-0915
Page Number: 23D

Catherine COAN Self W Female W 58 NY Keeping NY NY
Thadeous KELLOGG SonL M Male W 19 NY Farmer NY NY
Marcia KELLOGG Dau M Female W 17 NY At Home NY NY

Where was Catherine in the 1900 USC? That's something I haven't quite nailed yet. Unfortunately, the DORNBURG surname does not ring a bell with me at all. However, I will keep digging and will let you know if anything crops up.

I am the great grandson of John Anson Dornburg.I wrote you a bit ago concerning Catherine S. Weatherwax Coan. She is said by the Heaton family that she is the mother of John A Dornburg and comes out of New York as your records indicate. Do you have proof that this was true or is she a surrogate mother of John Dornburg. The family records indicate that they lived in the Detroit area where John received his education, that they came to Boyne Fall/Boyne City. It is said that Catherine remarried in this area (Coan/Cowan). I know that she died and is buried at age 80 in Bay Springs, Charlevoix Co. Michigan, where John Anson Dornburg resided. I am looking for more information on the Dornburg and Weatherwax line. Please respond!
John Robkins Clark b.1893 Cheboygan,Michigan

I am trying to find the father of John R. Clark. His mother was Olive Hodges b. 1874 Michigan. She was from the UP of Canadian parentage and married a Clark (perhaps a John also) from lower Michigan. Her husband died early in the marriage leaving Olive and John (at about age 6 in 1899). John Robkins Clark remembered the sickness and death of his father. A memory of vomiting blood before his death. After her husband's death Olive returned to the UP and married a Minier who were from her mother's side of the family. Family legend has it that the Clarks of this lower Michigan family were well to do but Olive chose to take her child and go back to the relative hardships associated with living in the UP. As far as I know no one has been able to trace the link with these Clarks in lower Michigan. Do these facts ring a bell with anyone associated with the Clark's in lower Michigan? Thanks for your help.

I am trying to find information on James Levie Crafard/Crawford and Annie Halstead Crafard/Crawford. I know they were living in Grant Twp. in 1910. They were both in their 60's so probably didn't live much longer. They were not listed in the 1920 census. Any help would be appriciated. Thanks J. Crafard

Thank you for the reply on my message it's just that I allready have that information. It's just with the two girls being mention in the 1870's census record. Then having only having the one mention in the 1880's census record. If you figure out that the daughter Louisa would be old enough have in got married by the time they took the 1880's census record. Then next thing is hoping some how you are able to try and figure out her married name. With Martha she hasn't remarried it's just it's like she has drop off in this face of earth. With them living up there in cheb . I do now that Martha lived to up in near her one hundred's she really didn't pass away until sometime after the 1920's like it was either 1927 or 1926. I have done everykind of who's who in my family on the search and still no finds of Lousia OR Lany Reeves without having the married last name its just pure frustration of the hitting brick wall

I have it downloaded in a PDF.

I am also connected to the Jewells in Cheboygan and tried to photograph many of the headstones. The Jewells lived in Cheboygan and Aloha.

Have been trying to piece to my Great Great Grandparents Gideon, and Martha Reeves family. You see I have found most of the boys in this family,it's now dealing with finding the girls. And this can get trick when you don't have any idea of what there married last names are. The two girls I am talking about is Louisa Reeves, and her younger sister is Lany Reeves. So if there is abody out there who may now what has happen to them. In the last census for Lany Reeves she was living with her parents up in the Tuscarora,Cheboygan Area. And the other sister Louisa Reeves her last time that I know of her showing up in the cesus record was when they were living in Ingham County area in the township of Alaiedon. This was the last time she was in census record. If you could please either let me know where to look for the information. Or if you want more information I have the Reeves side fo your tree or if you think that you could be reltaive then do just like everybody else does.

Hey, I was wondering if anyone knew anything about Angelique melancon. She is the mother of Marie Melancon Oxley and was married to Charles Melancon. Various records have her listed as anglique, angeline, or angelic. Also her children seemed not to know her maiden name exactly because its listed in some records as Moreau, Morrow, Desourdie, or as in the Cheboygan newspaper, Desourdia. She seems to have been born in 1844 and died in 1926.
If you have any information about her, or Oxley, or just was to comment on the fact you're among the same family, then please comment.

Dana Smith

I am on the trail of Catherine and keep coming up cold. All I have to confirm her connection to Michigan is her death certificate. She was born 17 June, 1823 in NY (probably at the Town of Schagticoke, Rensselaer Co.) to Peter and Elizabeth (GRAUBERGER) Weatherwax. She died at Evangeline Twp., Charlevoix Co., MI on 10 February, 1903 at the age of 79 years and 8 months. She was buried in the Bay Springs Burial Ground on 12 February, 1903. I am simply not finding her even though it appears that she was the recipient of surrogate court papers from NY while living in Charlevoix Co. in 1877. It also doesn't help that I am very leery about the spelling of her married surname. The only whiff of a clue I currently have to work with is that the informant on her death certificate was John A. Dornburg.

Hi....many errors here. I'd like to give you the correct information but would prefer to do so privately as it is rather complicated. Suffice to say that William is not the son of Benjamin Gerow and Annie Munro. He was the son of Maude and was my father. Your cousin would have no ties to the Munro family other than a possible step relationship. If you will email me privately at millis@shaw.ca I'll fill in the rest of the details.
Benjamin was married first to Hannah Kelsh/Kelch and they had sons William Charles and Sherwood J. William Charles and wife Edith adopted son Howard Lewis Cross. Howard was the youngest son of George Cross and Roberta Kelly. Roberta died soon after childbirth and Howard (a newborn) was given up for adoption. Other children went to family and an orphanage.
Hello...we must be some kind of cousin. Allan Munro was my great great grandfather. There are some errors in the information you provided. Oran first married Catherine Hubble. she died in 1845 in Jefferson Co., New York. He then married Mahala (surname unknown). He did not die in 1863 but sometime after 1881 when he appears on the Canadian Census. Catherine and Oran had 6 children:
Perse married Polly Hubble
Allan married Elizabeth Wood Post
Samuel married 4 times, Sarah Ann Hubble, Mary Ann Wescott, Elizabeth Harnden and Matilda Clarke
Oran Milton married Mary Elizabeth Lemmon
Huldah (not Hannah) first married Amiah Hubble and in 1881 married his brother Andrew
Lovica married John Dorie

The geographic area is Oak Lake, Methuen Twp., Peterborough Co., Ontario not Oakdale. Methuen Twp merged with Belmont twp at some point.

I'm curious...which one of the above is your ancestor? I'd love to hear more about your branch.
Hi Marie,
I'm the Tammy you are looking for. I would love to share family information. I only have one picture of Leonard Bassett with his wife, Victoria (Wyktoria) Ostrowski. I'd be happy to share. I was well into my research before I even learned that my grandpa's birth name was Leonard. Everyone called him Pat. Even the firstborn grandson was named Pat.
Hope to hear from you!
Tammy
sound4hound@yahoo.com

I'm trying to get in touch with a Bassett & Leonard researcher who posted a Query to the Cheboygan MIGenWeb Webpage in 1999. Her name was Tammy Meyers and her connection was through Leonard Bassett who was the son of Mary Leonard and Irvin Bassett. Mary was the older sister of my husband's great grandmother Margaret Jane Leonard Buchanan. I have a picture which I believe is of the girls(Mary & Margaret) with their parents and siblings.

Would love to exchange information.
--Marie Beckman Grucz

I am in contact with a Vivian Stinson. She is a descendant of Katherine, sister of John and Tony. She is also posting on Ancestry.com, but in somewhere else on the site and I keep losing contact with her. Its still very confusing to me.

I got the startling news from her that Katherine married Paul Czolgosz, who is also the father of Leon Czolgosz, who assasinated president McKinley. So though he is not a blood relative, that is close enough!! It's fascinating that my mother had mentioned something about a member of our family being a famous murderer, but I brushed it off at the time.

But I am still interested in the Mac/McFalda hame and how it came to be. Does anyone have a marriage certificate from any of Martin's children? that should have more information.

Tim

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the family info. Below is a link to the Family Search Record Search (Morman Pilot Site) for info on Martin. Not too much is available. Gave his birth and death. Where he was born.

I contacted Judy McFalda, via email, but she didn't respond.

http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#...

Beth

Beth:
My mother (daughter of John and Frances the younger) has just confirmed the fact that the family name was pronounced Matzalda (she did not know the spelling). She claimed that the change was made by John, but it seems the change would have been made by his siblings as well. Maybe that's where the two spellings come from.
Does anybody have any more information about Martin? How did he spell his name? His wife's name?

There is a Judy McFalda, a realtor, in Rogers City. Has anyone contacted her? What about other McFAldas still in Posen?
