Hello! I was going through death records at the County Clerks and found my ggrandmothers sister was born in Paewatverty, Michigan. I have absolutely no idea where this could be. I'm assuming somewhere in Cheboygan Co, otherwise they probably would have given just Michigan. I personally think it's going to be something like Chum's Corners (outside Traverse City), or Maue's Corners (outside Onekama) which are families that owned all the land around that intersection, but they aren't on any maps. So, if someone comes across any helpful info, I would be very, very grateful!! Thank you!!!

1. St. Charles Catholic Church was in Cheboygan I believe it is now closed. Where are these records now?? Are they accessable?? A bride and groom married there in 1940. Would the church records show the parents of bride and groom??

2. Do the holdings of the vital records in Cheboygan Co include name change records? Bride from question 1 above might have changed her name from her birth surname name to a new surname at age 18 or so. If there are name change records can a daughter of the bride get a copy of the name change. Name change probably took place in 1939, 1940.

Information needed for DAR application.

Thanks in Advance

Karen Jenter
Washtenaw Co.
My husband is a great great grandson of William Jewell (1812-1899), who died in Cheboygan. He is decended from one of William's sons (Hector, 1855-1928) who remained in Ontario (North Gwillimbury Township, York County). We're always interested in connecting with distant relatives, as several of William's sons moved to Cheboygan with him in 1880, after the death of his wife Hestor Sedore (1816-1875).

Still a mystery is where in Upper Canada William was born.

Information Please - Orphanage *

I recently found out that my father and his sister both spent some time in an orphanage in the 1930's.
His mother passed away in March 1929 and both the children along with my Grandfather are found in the 1930 census living with my great Grandfather in Wayne County, Michigan.

I believe the orphanage was in Cheboygan County area due to an elderly family friend (who was a child in the 1930's) remembers it being "up North" and the family had a history of living in the area. Further, the mother, my grandmother, is supposed to have died in Benton Township, Cheboygan County. Some time after the census the two children went to the orphanage for an unknow length of time.

Does anyone have an information on a possible orphanage or where any existing records my be?

My Grandmother was Dina Debusschere married to John Van Loon.

Thank you for any help or leads.
From 1964 to his retirement in 1976 he worked out of Livernois Yard in Detroit, living in Garden City, Mich.

After retirement, Biff and his wife enjoyed many winters in Bradenton, Fla. combined with spring, summer, and fall in Mackinaw, where he was a long time treasurer and secretary of the Mackinaw Senior Citizens and officer of the Cheboygan County Council on Aging. Biff followed the latest political news, read widely on the Revolutionary and Civil wars, became a Web surfer, and followed the Tigers and University of Michigan football - the latter loyalty withstanding his children, granddaughters, and their spouses attending other universities, including a few in the Big 10!

Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Mackinaw City.
Charles FITZPATRICK and Mary TUCKER- Cheboygan Co MI 1888-1889 and beyond

Hi,

I'm wondering if there is someone out there who is working on this family. My interest is Mary TUCKER as she is my ggrandfather's sister. Here is what I know about them. Mary Malica TUCKER was born in Ontario ca. 1862 to Hiram TUCKER and Thursday Emeline RINESS. I found her marriage to Charles in the Cheboygan Co MI Marriage records in Feb of 1889. Charles James FITZPATRICK was listed as being born in Sandusky, O....not sure if this is OH or Ontario. His parents listed were James FITZPATRICK and Anne last name unreadable. I tried to track these 2 down on Ancestry through the census records, but am unable to pinpont them in the 1900 census for MI or the rest of the United States for certain. Does anyone out there connect to this family and might you have further information on them? Thank you,

Iris Peppers
Michigan
