I have info from the archives of the Felician sisters in Livonia, Michigan. Two of the daughters of John McFalda , Mary and Helen, entered the Felician order. Their records indicate the following information about their parents:

John Macfalda from Gniedziadz, Poland. Died May 9, 1919 Posen, Mich.
Frances Szmejchel from Szabdy Powiat Brodnica, Poland, died January 21, 1929 Posen, Mich.

I have located what seem to be the two towns in The western part of Poland which (in confirmation of family legend) belongd to Germany in the 19th century.

On family search.com I found a Wojciech McFalda, born in Germany, whose father is Martin. He married Magdalena Budnik in 25 June of 1900. If this is the same Martin as our ancestor, could he be the same as George?? or would that be too late??

Surnames: MacFalda McFalda
Yes, Wojciech would be George. He was younger than the others. I have information on all of the children, and I'd be happy to share it with you. I have been to the St. Casimir cemetery and the PI county clerks office for many of the MacFalda records, as well as from the Felicians (you're right, they do have wonderful records). I knew that Aunt Agnes had married a Wozniak, but never made the Apple connection. Email me at annem1(that's a #1)*at* wowway.com and we can talk more. Thanks!

Beth:
My mother (daughter of John and Frances the younger) has just confirmed the fact that the family name was pronounced Matzalda (she did not know the spelling). She claimed that the change was made by John, but it seems the change would have been made by his siblings as well. Maybe that's where the two spellings come from.
Does anybody have any more information about Martin? How did he spell his name? His wife's name?

There is a Judy McFalda, a realtor, in Rogers City. Has anyone contacted her? What about other McFAldas still in Posen?

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the family info. Below is a link to the Family Search Record Search (Morman Pilot Site) for info on Martin. Not too much is available. Gave his birth and death. Where he was born.

I contacted Judy McFalda, via email, but she didn't respond.

I am in contact with a Vivian Stinson. She is a descendant of Katherine, sister of John and Tony. She is also posting on Ancestry.com, but in somewhere else on the site and I keep losing contact with her. Its still very confusing to me.

I got the startling news from her that Katherine married Paul Czolgosz, who is also the father of Leon Czolgosz, who assasinated president McKinley. So though he is not a blood relative, that is close enough!! It's fascinating that my mother had mentioned something about a member of our family being a famous murderer, but I brushed it off at the time.

But I am still interested in the Mac/McFalda hame and how it came to be. Does anyone have a marriage certificate from any of Martin's children? that should have more information.

Tim
