WATERS

I am interested in learning more of my WATERS ancestors, and I have learned that Asa WATERS died at Benzonia, MI in 1894, and his son Frederick WATERS died at Benzonia, MI in 1918. I would like to obtain obituaries for both of these gentlemen and any other information, such as wives and children names. Asa WATERS was a brother to my 3gr grandfather Harvey H. WATERS.
I thank anyone who can assist me.
Tim

Hi - I took an extra few minutes at the courthouse in Beulah yesterday and looked for death dates for the Waters you are looking for. I have found a few, and since all the old deaths in Benzie County are listed on the two page index these are probably all you'll find. Obits are a bit tougher, since the earliest Benzonia papers in the local library don't start until 1888, and then they were sporatic.
The village of Benzonia was started as a college, so the local newspaper seems to be filled with town and school news, but little about the farmers except a few gossip columns. In fact I found no formal obits listed even in 1918, if someone in town died they just put it on the front page. The paper did not print for the two months in 1918 when I looked for Frederick's notice, change of ownership.

So here's from the death certificates at the Benzie Co. Courthouse:

Waters, Achsah Otis, female, white, married, age 82y, 11m, 24d, died Nov. 15 1885 in Benzonia Twp., died of old age, b. Saratoga Co., NY, occupation housewife. Father: Abijah Otis, b. Howard Steuben Co., NY Mother: Eleanor Otis, date of record May 22, 1886

Waters, Sarah Ann, female, white, married, age 68y, 4m, 3d.
Died in Union City, MI (I don't know where this is, it is not around here) died: April 14, 1886, accidentally and instantly killed by being thrown from a carriage by runaway horses. b. Erie Co., NY occupation: teacher and housewife. Father: Matthew Pollay b. Cayuga NY, Mother Olive Pollay b. Orleans Co., NY, date of record Apr. 20, 1887

Waters, Jane, female, white married, age 77 y,, 4 m. 11 d
d. in Frankfort of gastric nueroses b. Ireland, housewife. Father: Gallogay, Mother unknown, date of record Jan 10, 1911

Waters, George H., d. June 14, 1913, male, white, widowed age 90y, 4 m, 14 d in Frankfort of hypostatic congestion of the lungs. b. Vermont occupation cabinet maker, father unknown, mother unknown, date of record Aug. 10. 1913

Waters, ------ infant, 1 day old, died Sept 23, 1896 in Bendon (about 15 miles from Benzonia), father Edwin Waters, mother Ettie Waters

Waters, Geo. Asa, male, white, single, 15y, 7m, 13d. Died in Benzonia Twp., Benzie Co. of diabetis insepidis. b. Mich, occupation farm boy. Father Frederick Waters, Mother Carrie Heath, date of record Oct. 6, 1915

Waters, Frederick B. male, white, married 55 y, 4m, 1d
died in Benzonia
father Otis B. Waters b. NY
mother MAHH Bliss b. Mass
date of record Feb. 5, 1918

While looking for death notes in the paper I found this:

Miss Nora Waters who has been teaching at Evart (Mich) has secured a vacation and is visiting her mother.
(Benzie Banner, Feb. 7, 1918)

Good hunting!

Well, here Iam again. Just discoverd this message too regarding the Waters. Frederick is the grandson of Asa, being the son of Otis, Asa's oldest son.
I knew there was a Harvey, have little on him, but not much
as the few that I know about are the family that came to Michigan. Will wait for your response.

I have Asa's obituary as he is my gr-grandfather. Frederick is his grandson, being the son of Otis who was a minister and was at several different times the minister of the Congrgational church in Benzonia.
Depending on where you may live, you may get copies on microfilm. Have information on Amasa also.
Let me know about your location. There are other ways to get them also.
More on that later. HWalter
