I am looking for descendants of Pierre (Peter) Crebassa and Nancy Roussain Crebassa. He lived in and around Baraga County in the early 1800's. My good friend descends from their line and would love to meet another descendant.

Hi best bet is to contact Lynn Ketola, she too is a family member and has the complete family tree, 906-523-7876.

the baraga county historical society's 1970 pageant booklet has a story on Early Fur Traders on Keweenaw Bay where the crebassas are featured. that booklet may be ordered by visiting the museum's web page at

I am a great great granddaughter of Pierre and Nancy Crebassa. Their daughter, Mary Louise Crebassa married Guy Earl Edgerton, and their daughter, Alice Edgerton Crocker was my grandmother.

I am a great-great grandaughter of Pierre and Nancy. My great-grandmother was Mary, their eldest daughter. Mary married Earl Edgerton, and my grandmother, Annie Grace, was one of their children. Annie's only child, Marion Frances, was my mother. Would love to hear from other descendants at above e-mail address.

Thank you.

Although I am not a descendant of Pierre and Nancy Crebassa, I am interested in this family as William, the youngest son of William and Nancy was married to Agnes, my grandfather's sister. I visited L'Anse in September of 2002 and found their gravestones as well as a great deal of information such as marriage records, obituary notices etc. I am wondering if anyone has any photographs of William and Agnes. I have some that she sent to my grandfather from the early part of the century. William and Agnes celebrated their 50th wedding anniversery in Nov. of 1937. I would love to know if anyone might have photographs taken around that time. William and Agnes had 2 sons, Nelson and Abner. Abner was the crown prosecutor for Keewenaw county when he died in 1918 at the young age of 26. He was married to Anna Kane of Detroit. Nelson married Catherine Peiffer of Escanaba on Aug. 30, 1915. They lived in L'Anse where Nelson died in 1967. William Crebassa died on March 12, 1940 and Agnes on Aug. 30, 1942.
Agnes' story is a fascinating one. She was raised as Agnes Dault in L'Anse and at the time of her marriage in 1887 she was told that she belonged to a family in Canada. In 1907 she set out to find her family and after travelling for 7 weeks she quite by accident was reunited with her birth family. She found that she had 9 siblings of whom my grandfather was the youngest. So it was very satisfying to travel to L'anse this past year and find out more about her life.
Hope that this information is of interest to you.
Regards,
Mel Ready

Hi: Although I am not a descendant of Pierre and Nancy Crebassa, I am interested in this family as my grandfather's sister was married to William Crebassa, the youngest son of Pierre and Nancy. William and Agnes were married in L'Anse in November of 1887. They died there in 1940 and 1942 respectively. Agnes' birth name was Kutchaw and was born in the Ottawa Vallely, Ontario, Canada. She was raised in Michigan by a family by the name of Deault or Dault. It was when she was getting married that she was told that she belonged to a family in Canada. In 1907 she set out to search for her birth family and succeeded in doing so after journeying throughout Quebec and Ontario for seven weeks. I have a newspaper account from a local newpaper documenting her reunion with her birth family. I also have photographs of Agnes and William and her family from the early part of the century. This past September I visited L'Anse and found a great deal of information on this family. The people there were very kind and helpful in assisting me in my research. I also left a copy of what information and also copies of photographs of this family with the Baraga co. museum. If anyone has other photos of this family, I would gladly pay to have them reproduced and sent to me. I would also like to have some information on the Deault family. Anyway, hopefully this information will be helpful to anyone researching the Crebassa family.
Regards,
Mel Ready
