I have included the link below....Many people here use the seekingmichigan.org website and that will be gone too!
Every signature counts! And Please help spread the word!!!!
http://www.petitiononline.com/RPAC2009/petition.html
Burials in Maple Grove Cemetery, Munising, Mi

Recently I visited Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising, Mi. to find a gravesite. I was successful in finding this grave, however, I noticed something that made me curious. While searching. I noticed that the plots were divided by grass - high cement boundaries and within the boundaries I found identical grave markers all for men with the date of death in the 1970's - upon further investigation I found another plot with identical markers of men dying in the 1960's. My relative, Joseph Kincel, was among this group. This made me wonder why the markers were identical, all men, grouped together. My uncle was a woods-man for the Kneeland Bigelow Company. Is there any connection between the employer and the men buried together. If you are able to send me any information concerning this I will be very grateful.
Pat Wisney

Re: Eliza Robinson - Death Cert Look-Up?

Thank you! I did know that Eliza had a brother,Theodore,I didn't know of Thomas & Lewis, but you're right, and there also seems to be another brother,Peter & a sister named Elnora(found those when I cross checked on Family Search, after I recieved your reply)
You see,Eliza has kind of a "twisted spot" in my family tree. She first married Willis Taylor on July 7,1895 in Cadillac,Wexford County.Willis was my GRANDMAS Grt Uncle, they lived in Cherry Grove,Wexford Co,and Eliza worked & took care of Willis' Mom Malissa (my GGGGrandma) in Aug of 1904 Eliza filed for a divorce in Cadillac, stating that Willis was "prone to strong drink, and a mean drunk, the final strw being he came home drunk, accused her of being unfaithful with a neighbor, puled a revolver on her and shot past her head, that divorce was final on Dec 12,1904.The neighbor she was accused of being unfaithful with was thier next door neighbor,John Robinson!! John was my Grandpas-Grandpa!!!! Whose wife,Della, had went "crazy" after the birth of their last child,(maybe postpartum?) anyways, she wouldn't take care of the kids or house, and John put her in the hospital in Traverse City, and divorced her,he also had Eliza coming in and caring for the kids & house!! John & Dellas divorce was also finalized on Dec 12,1904.....but the court had taken the 3 youngest kids from John, and he couldn't get them back until he remarried.........didn't take him long!!
I'm not sure just what happened, but this I know,Eliza will always hold a special place in not only my heart, but my family tree, because she married into both my Moms lines!!
Am researching for my sister-in-law, daughter of Helen Howard and Frederick Jacob Leffelbien. She was born in 1941. She is told that Frederick and Helen were married in Munising and had a son, Johnathon, who might have died there. Frederick is said to have died about 1957 in Spokane Washington. Helen married a Lancour and lived in Schoolcraft County until her death. Am having difficulty finding anything on Frederick. Am in hopes that someone might recognize the name, know something about the marriage or the son, Johnathon. Am hitting a brick wall on this family. Theresa McManus Neville

In the 1910 census for Burt Township, there is a May Lavender and her children; Roy, Cora, Wealthy, Clarence and Harry DeLong. Cora, Clarence and Harry ended up in Bay City. Does anyone know what happened to Roy J. DeLong (born 6/1887) or Wealthy (born 7/1891)? Wealthy's occupation in the 1910 census was "nurse".

In 1870 Lewis & family are living in Grand Rapids, Kent county.
They have two daughters - Louisa and Ida. Louisa does not show up in the 1880 census, Ida is listed as Eda in the 1880 census. Barbara (wife) has her brother Charles Shafer living with them as well.

For info after 1880, you will need to search the 1900 census or a county census between 1880 and 1900. The 1890 census burned. Lewis was born in Louisville, KY and probably moved with his parents to Michigan in the late1850s. Would like to know what happened to this family after 1880. The census location was Munising, MI. I believe that Andrew Nicholas may be the brother of my great grandmother, Mary Eve Nicholas Schneider Herbst.

I would be more than happy to pay copy and postage costs.
George Whitman Vasold to Margaret Florence LaFord
married 10 or 12 Oct 1906 in Grand Marais

2. I have a letter from my grandfather stating that he saw an oldtime photo on a wall of a restaurant in Grand Marais. The photo was of a wedding couple at a rail station. He thought it was his parents. I have one photo of my great grandparents and if I can find this restaurant, I would like my photo compared to that photo. If they are the same couple, I am hoping the current owners would be kind enough to make me a good color copy (at my expense of course). My great grandmother died at a young age and her husband remarried. The 2nd wife destroyed or threw the 1st wife's stuff in the swamphole behind their house. My family would be so pleased to find a piece of our past. I know this a long shot, but I am hoping someone in the Grand Marais area can help me.

Thank you so much in advance.
Linda
Whittier, CA
Gretchen, My husband lived in Chatham for many years. If you have not already learned what township Chatham is in, it is in Rock River Township. My husband advises that the Pine Grove Cemetery is actually in an area called Slapneck, named after the Slapneck River! Hope this is of help. Regards, Sally Williams

Hi F. Carrier - my relatives all were from AuTrain & Munising, still have a sister living on Powell Lake. I have not traced the Carrier background, but can give this much info: Augustus (
Gustave) Doucette married Delia Carrier and they produced Adela, Louise and A. Winifred, Ester, Augusta, Francis, Lloyd, William & Orin.- A. Winifred married Adolph Bovan (A Great Uncle of mine) - Francis married my Aunt Marvel. If you desire more info, e-mail me at BettyLu6@juno.com.

Hi Jayne & Tom,

I see your messages were put on the board in Feb 1999 - it's several years since then, but I am a bit knowledgeable about the Doucette Family in AuTrain & Munising, Michigan. I am a Bovan & several of my family married Doucette's. Have you all found what you were looking for? I am trying to get them back into Canada and France. Talk to me.

Betty Lou

In response to your querry, only information that I have would be on William St. Peter who married my Aunt Marion Hebert and their children. I know that my Uncle Bill's father owned a saloon at one time in Munising, Alger Co., presumeably turn of the century till the 20's. My Aunt Marion is 95 and is the oldest surviving family member. She was born outside Munising in Indian Town along with her 11 other siblings.
If you are connected to William's family, I would appreciate any information you could share regarding his ancestors. Sincerely, Jayne A. Hebert
