HITE, Mabel, actress, vaudeville singer and comedienne. Born 1885 in Ashland (or Catlettsburg) Ky., daughter of pharmacist _________ and Elsie Hite. First appearance at age 11 as Lord Chancellor in amateur performance of Iolanthe. First professional job with Dunn and Ryley’s company in A Milk-White Flag, and later, The Telephone Girl. Musical plays included A Knight for a Day and A Certain Party with her husband, New York Giant baseball star Mike Donlin, in the leading role. Her last act was Mabel Hite and Her Clowns. After being stricken by intestinal cancer, she had an operation and took up Christian Science, but died on Oct. 22, 1912 at age 27. Donlin stepped out of baseball and into movies
