I was in contact with Coleth RAMUS of Lincoln for many years since the 1980s. My life got upside down and it was not until 2008 I tried to contact her and learned of her passing. I called her home and a nephew answered. He told me she had passed away and they were clearing her house. I asked him if anyone in the family would be taking up her research and he had no answer. She spoke of her father. I find a Carl RAMUS in Lincoln who is 91 and still living but do not know of a relationship. I believe Coleth was an RN. I do not believe she was ever married. If anyone has information about Coleth, her obituary, death date or ancestry, please contact me. I am sorry to have lost an old friend and would like to add her dates to my research on the RAMUS family.
Kerry Ehrhart - k_ehrhart@yahoo.com

I have a scrap of paper on their page, which I guess I was never sure what to do with; grandson Bean, Vern 23 b MI, farm laborer, Ruth 26 b MI, Vern-jr 2 b MI, Barbara P. 1 b MI. Have no clue what the 1862 belongs to. Sorry to be so disorganized. I tie in way back to the Hamilton, Thornton, Byce, Carvo clan. Was b Harrisville and heard many of the names growing up and couldn't get a good picture of what it was all about! Sorry to be little help.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I hope you can help.

Maude Ruth Crosby was born April 12, 1897 in Ohio and married Raymond Ross Smith in Alcona Co., Mi in 1914. Raymond was born in Ohio to James Austin White Smith. James died just before the move or enroute to MI. They both died in Tucola Co., MI where they moved after the birth of their 4th child.

Raymond helped to raise his siblings and his children were raised with them. They grew up with their aunts and uncles as if they were siblings, although younger. These included:

Pearl Smith b. Aug 1887 (married J.P. Cole in Ohio)
Nella 'Nellie Smith b. Nov 1890 (married Frank Haynie in Ohio)
Grace Louise Smith b. Sept 1892 (married Levi Stockton in Killmaster, Alcona Co., MI)
Verna Mae Smith b. Oct 1895 (married Duncan Dewar in Killmaster)
Mary Smith b. May 1900 (married Wallace Minthorn in Killmaster)

Maude's parents were Harry Crosby and Viola Thompson. Viola was born in Ohio, but died in Caro, Tuscola Co., MI. Their children (and Maude's siblings) include, Jeremiah James, Robert, Joseph, Thomas, Jane, Emily & Harold. I have not been able to track them yet.

Any help with these families would be much appreciated.
I'm looking for three carpentering brothers who were in Toledo, Ohio in 1890/91. They don't seem to have returned to the original family home in Ann Arbor, MI and are not buried with the rest of their family there. Following are the names of all (8) children of the family, in case subsequent generations recycled some of them:
Parents: Gottlieb BUCHHOLZ (one h later dropped)and wife, Caroline SCHMID (might be a t on the end) emigrated from Prussia 1868/69 to New York>Ann Arbor, MI. Some children emigrated with them and others were born in the US.
Herman, Labrecht G. (Labbey)(m.), Bertha Mathilda Charlotte, Albert A., William F., Henry, Charles L., and Frank H..

The missing sons are:
Albert A. BUCHOLZ
b. 1870 in Prussia. It is unknown if he married. Last whereabouts: 1890/91 was staying in boarding house at 1965 Erie, Toledo, Ohio. Trade: Carpenter and doesn't say where he was working.

William F. BUCHOLZ
b. 1869 in New York (during or shortly after voyage from
Prussia. He was a carpenter by trade, but doesn't say where he was working in Toledo, Ohio in 1890/91 when he was boarding at 1965 Erie. He returned to Ann Arbor, MI, to marry (In 27 Aug 1892) Sarah A. MOORE, b. 1869 in Indiana. (dressmaker daughter of P. MOORE and Sarah MAYNES. The trail is cold after the marriage.

The sister of these three men was also staying in Toledo, Ohio, in the same boarding house at 1965 Erie for a period of time. She has no trade or work listed and shortly thereafter returned to Ann Arbor to marry my gr. grandfather, Richard Garibaldi PORTWINE (also a carpenter).

Frank H. BUCHOLZ is the third missing brother from this family. He was b. 1 Aug 1875 in Ann Arbor, MI and it is not known if he married. He was a carpenter by trade and in 1890/91 he was living at 556 Church Street, Toledo, Ohio and working as a carpenter for the Wabash R. R., in Toledo.

If anyone can shed some light on where they may have gone on to, I'd be delighted to hear from you.

Last night I found an old book in a pile of my great grandfather's papers.

It will probably be months before it is scanned and transcribed, but wanted to let people know I have it.

Farm Plat Book. Alcona County Michigan 1956.
Rockford Map Publishers

It has farm plats, with farm size and owners names, for every farm in Alcona County in 1956.

Does anyone know of any earlier versions of this sort of farm plat map? Would love to follow my relative's farms back to the turn of the century, and earlier.

Jerry Johnson
jmiloj@gmail.com

I've tried finding my William Parker on the internet but I can't find a thing. The only metion of him is in the Alcona County Review newspaper. Basically the paper would run little tidbits about people in the community every week. Such as, "Mrs. Wm. Parker visited with family in Alpena last week." Or, "Mrs. Wm. Parker spent the past week homebound with a cold." If you are doing any research on someone from Alcona county, this info can really provide good leads. Unfortunatly one must spend hours in front of the microfiche machine. What other surnames are you researching in Alcona and from what towns?

I really don't know anything at all about this William Parker except my gggrandmother's husband dies in 1912 and starting in 1917 the Alcona County Review starts referring to her as Mrs. William Parker. No one knows where he came from or anything about him. By the 1920 cencus she still calls herself Christina Parker but he is not listed on the census nor does he ever show up on anything again. I would imagine that their marriage record if there was one was through Alcona County. By the way, I believe the Alcona Dam had originally begun to be built in the late 1910's.

The Alcona Dam was built on the Ausable River in 1924. My great great grandmother was married for a very short time to a William Parker during the years abt 1917-1920. During this time they lived in the area where the dam was being built. Could this be your William Parker?

Thank you for the info. I'll explain why I'm asking.
Between the years of 1920 and 1930, I think closer to 1920, a family member William Parker left his home to "go work on a dam" and was supposedly never seen or heard from again. He left behind a wife and 4 children.Where would I find any proof of this? Would the police dept have missing persons records from that long ago?? A person just doesn't disappear without anyone looking for him. The children were very young probably around maybe 5 years old!!I would check old newspapers, but that is kind of hard without a closer date. This is a brick wall in my family tree. Any help appreciated.
Jennifer Galpin
Michigan

Hi,
Well, I don't know if it is or not. If you look at the 1920 Alcona Co. census he is living with Ruth. He could have been back with Ruth at the time the census was taken???? I have not checked with Alcona County yet to see if and when he and Ruth ever got a divorce, if he really did disappear and they declared him dead or what. Or is that just the story that Ruth gave her 4 little kids when she sent them to live with Uncle Charlie in Tenn? Then in 1921 Ruth marries my greatgrandfather who is a neighbor to her parents. Ruth is 20 some years younger than my gg and they go on to have 2 more kids, according to the 1930 census. And in the 1930 census I find a William Parker in North Carolina married to someone else with a son. There is no way to prove if this is him or not.
I did find one other William Parker in Alcona County that was not the one I am looking for. The one I am looking for was born in Indiana. I don't know his birthdate right off hand without looking it up.Do you have a copy of the marriage license for your ggrandmother and Wm. Parker? I have found some information on the Alcona County.org website.
Jennifer
Jennifer

Galpin.
Ruth A. Graves Parker married my ggrandfather Ozen Galpin.
She was married to William D. Parker. Story is he went to work on a dam and never was heard from again. I don't believe it. How do I find Missing persons from Alcona County? If that is true someone had to file a missing persons report.
Also Ruth and Ozen had 2 more kids. Ruth A and Ozen Jr.
Trying to find out who Ozen Jr married.
Re: Charles Henry

I have been trying to connect this Walter (h/o Frederika) as a brother of my G-grandfather Charles Francis HENRY b. Feb 1844 Switzerland d. 2 Jan 1924 PA, but have not been able to find a concrete link. I know that Charles immigrated in 1850 according to 1900 census, however, Walter was dead by the time immigration years were added on census records.

I have never been able to come up with a passenger list that names a Charles HENRY or a Walter HENRY on it. According to Walter's death record, his parents were Antonie and Mary and I have searched for those names in passenger lists and in census and again have come up empty. Since Charles would have been 5 or 6yrs in 1850, I would assume he came to the US with his parents, or at least someone older. However, it's possible that HENRY is the Americanization of some other name like HEINRICH or HENRIE.

Since Walter (h/o Carrie) was b. 1866 West Chester PA and his sister Minnie in 1869 who I also believe was b. PA, I surmise that Walter and Frederika were living there in that timeframe. Charles was married in West Chester in 1867.

The first time I find Charles in census is 1870 and he is already married, living with his wife's family. In 1870, Walter and Frederika are living in Saginaw MI. I find nothing in 1860 putting any of the names, Charles, Walter, Antonie and Mary, together.

1880 census has conflicting info, showing Frederika b. SWITZ and children Walter and Minnie b. NY, but the other records show Frederika born in Germany and Walter the son b. in PA. My assumption that the daughter Minnie was b. PA is not verified, but I suspect is correct.

Is there any possibility that you have come across the name ANTHONY HENRY in your research?

Charles' naturalization petition (1884) is signed (as a witness stating he had known Charles for more than 5ys) by Anthony HENRY b. 1860. I suspect, without proof, that Anthony could be a son of Walter and Frederika. (Seems a good possiblity that Walter would name his son Anthony after his father Antonie.)

I found an Anthony HENRY, age 20, in 1880 census living in Saginaw in what seems like a "boarding" situation. It gives his birthplace as Canada and both parents b. Switzerland, however, what I have learned about this Anthony from later census is that he was born in PA not Canada. He married a Michigan girl (Della) ca 1881. They have one child, Raymond, b. 1882 bp. MI. They move to West Chester, PA where they show up in the 1900, 1910 and 1920 census.

Currently, I am trying to get a copy of Charles 'Declaration of Intent' dated 1868 hoping that will give me some defining information as the naturalization petition only shows him b. Switzerland the witness name Anthony HENRY.

I could be so off track on this, but there are just so many little things in common including the fact that Charles' first son is named Walter, and like Walter (h/o Frederika), Charles also had a son named "Frankie", who died as an infant.

If any of this is confusing, please let me know and I will clarify. Any insight you can provide would be most appreciated. I would be happy to send you the other information I have collected on Walter and Fredricka's descendants.
Thank you so much for taking the time to look up all this information. I have been trying for well over a year to connect this HENRY family to my HENRY family in Chester Co., PA. The two families have timeframes, places and several given names in common, as well as other clues I've found that convince me the two are related.

I thought if I could just find someone who was researching Walter and Carrie, I could get back to Walter's father, Walter b. ca 1840 Switzerland who I believe is brother to my G-grandfather.

You never know who might have the missing piece to a puzzle, so I keep searching.

Again, thank you, you have been very generous.

Regards,
JC HENRY

I am also searching the Henry name, and noted you included Byswinger. Frederika Byswinger (or Biswinger)Henry McConnell was my husband's great grandmother, and lived with the Henry's for a time as Frederika McConnell (She married Lewis McConnell. Have you found anything on Frederika? I have a picture of her holding my husband's mother (age about 6). I've had no success in finding what happened to Walter, her husband.

Their son Frank married Grace Newman of East Saginaw in June 20, 1900. Children are Frank, born 1904, and Grace, born February 5, 1915. I will let you know if I have any success in finding information relating to Swiss ancestors. Grace Henry believed that Walter had emmigrated from Italy through Switzerland because of the features and coloring of the family, and also because there was a great migration from Italy about that time.

In 1920 there is a family:
Thomas Timberlin
wife Clara
Sons: John, Clyde, Emerson, Loyd.
I find no mention of them in Alcona in 1930. But in Wayne County Michigan in a Training School I find Clyde, Emerson and Helen Timberlin.
Can anyone do a search and tell me whether Thomas, Clara, John, & Loyd died between 1920 and 1930?
There is another John Timberlin in the area but he has different parents.
Thanks in Advance
Cindy
