Looking for information on William and Mercy, George and Christina Haley in Harrisville. Any Haley info would be appreciated. The Haley's came from Ontario. Rumor has it they started or worked at a hotel in Harrisville.
Also looking for information on Fred Byce buying property from William and Mercy Haley in 1907.
My grandmother was Ruth Haley, dau of George.

Thanks in advance

I don't have specific information on any of the people you mention, but do have a Byce/Haley family connection from the Harrisville area.

(brother and sister inlaws)

They appear to both be part of the migration in the early 1900s from Harrisville to Two Harbors, Minnisota

1-Joseph Henry Elmes b. Abt 1836, Ireland
+Elizabeth Vennard b. Abt 1839, New Brunswick, Canada, d. 6 Sep 1901, (Mount
Joy Cemetery, Haynes Township, Alcona County, Michigan)
|--2-Ann Christina (Anna) Elmes b. Abt 1871, Canada
| +Grant Wellington Byce b. 17 Mar 1869, Michigan
|--2-Joseph Henry Elmes Jr. b. Mar 1876, Canada, d. 1 Nov 1966, Eagle Bend,

Yes, Jerry, (Esther) Etta Jane Haley was my great-aunt. I am not sure why the move out west but 2 of her brothers and families went to Seattle.

My grandmother, Ruth Haley, was the last of 12 children, born and raised in Harrisville. I remember her telling me that she was best friends with several Byce kids. She was born in 1901. She later moved to Detroit, while the others stayed in Harrisville. I am not sure if Dorothy Haley is still there or not. She worked at the courthouse and lived in the big house across the street.

Ruth's parent, George William Haley and Christine MacDonald, came over from Ontario. Do you know anything about this migration? Was it for logging and did they get bounty land if they logged? That is what I heard but I can't seem to prove it.

My cousin George Haley, son of John, still goes up to Harrisville occasionally.

Our William and Marcy were the parents of George. Much is NOT known about them. In 1870 census, she is remarried to Benjamin Crossett. Then later to a Murdoch McLean, in the 1910 census. Mercy died in 1911. William sort of disappeared but family says he was still around. Then I see this info on William and Mercy selling land to Fred Byce in 1907. Do you know how to get land records for Harrisville? I have looked in the years posted on the computer. No luck.

Sorry this is so lengthy but you know how it when you get close to a missing link.

Yourwebsite is beautiful. So much time! I really enjoyed it.

Thank you,
Nancy
