I am trying to clear up some loose ends for John B. Nolin/Nolan. My husband is a descendent of Jane "Jennie" Nolan Prior from the Soo and John b.1825 was her father and Margaret St. Onge LaTour her mother. Can you follow the geneology of his lineage back a few generations? This is where it gets fuzzy with two men having the same name and being born one year apart. Was his father Michel or John B.? Any info back further? Please send any info to share.

Thank you for sharing your information on the Bonneau family. I am having a hard time finding anything on Dosithee Suauve Dit LaPlante b.1805 (your info: Dosithea Sauvi b 1869 in Sault. Or her family. I have found info of more children for John Baptist b 1772 and Dosithee Suave b. 1805:
William Michel 1821
Leon 1822
Adlinad 1825 (My GGG Grandmother)
Genevieve Jane 1830
Aisante 1831
John Baptiste 1832
Francis 1835
Sophia 1837
Henriette 1840
Dosithee Augusta 1849
My GGG Grandmother Adlinad, married Francis Lemarande (sp. different on records) in 1839 In Sault Ste. Marie, MI.
No further info found on either on them after this. Their two children Adelaide (my GG Grandmother)born abt 1844) and Francis Lemarande (b abt 1842) found on 1850 and 1860 census records living with grandfather John Baptiste Bonneau in Sault.
I am still searching for any information on my ancestors in this family or any information on any of the family. I appreciate any help finding pieces to this puzzle.
Thank You,
Sue

Essie Claspell was my great grandmother (my paternal grandmothers mother). My grandmother was the first and only child born to Essie Claspell and Gerald Erly. I have the birth certificate. My grandmother died 9/13/2004. She kept the details of her father very guarded. To my knowledge Essie and Gerald were never married. My grandmother (Lorraine Daisy Margaret Erly) was born out of wedlock...as she always told the story. She was born on 11/4/1933. I would love to talk to anyone about this marriage/relationship.

Hi,
I have an update to my last post:
Charles A and Ellen were married in 1885 in Detroit. Thier oldest son, also Charles A, was born April 20, 1886 in Detroit, MI but he was christened in Chippewa County in Oct of that same year. So now I've narrowed the years they were in Chippewa county to 1886 to 1890.

I saw that you have posted several times regarding Toini Streeter, and you probably already have this information, but her death certificate says her father's name was
Emil Harrison and her mother's name was
Matilda Karvosen

Just in case you haven't found them, though, here is the information from the 1920 Census. They live in Drummond, Chippewa, Michigan

Emil A. Harrison emigrated from Finland in 1905 and was naturalized in 1913 (you can probably get the record from the Michigan courts). He's 42 years old. Both parents were born in Finland.

Matilda (Tillie) Karvosen Harrison emigrated from Finland in 1904. I can't read the year she was naturalized. Both parents were born in Finland.

The children are (and the names have been badly transcribed--probably because they are Finish, so I'm not sure I'm getting the correctly either:
1. Tyyne E. 12 years old daughter born in Michigan
2. Tonio 10 years old son born in Michigan
3. Toino 7 years old daughter born in Michigan --actually, it says 7 years 5/12 months
4. Taimo E. 5 6/12 years old daughter born in Michigan
5. Thelma 2 5/12 years old daughter born in Michigan

In the 1930 Census, Emil is still alive. Matilda has apparently died. They still live in Drummond, Chippewa, Michigan.
Emil lives with
1. T. Eugene son age 20
2. E. Laimi daughter, age 15

In the 1940 Census, Emil is still alive, living alone. He still lives in Drummond, Chippewa, Michigan.

Emil registered for the draft and gives his birthday as mar. 6, 1877, born in Finland. His eyes are blue; his hair is dark.

Hope that helps you some.

Pat

I learned from an obit that my ggrandfather, Charles McCarthy was an engineer on St Mary's Fall canal sometime between 1880 and 1890. Since he wasn't born, married or died there, is there anyway to find out more about his life and work there? I can't seem to find him in the 1880 census either in Sault ste, Marie or his home town of Detroit.
Thanks

(the descendant I have been working on), Elizabeth, Loretta Margaret, Catherine and Florence.

Thank you for the information. I did find these records for Adelaide, but it is helpful to know what is "not" on those early records, which are hard to understand. I do use the family search and the find a grave sites, which are very helpful in finding information and records. I am always thankful for any help with putting the puzzle together.
Sue

I’m not related to any member of this family.

1940 is the last available census at this time.

Facts you should know about the early census records -
All census records [1790 – 1840] prior to the 1850 census ONLY listed the head of household; whether male or female.

NO specific age was stated for any family member
NO place of birth was stated – city, state, or country
NO city, town, or village is stated – only the county; however some census takers listed the township
NO street address was stated
NO marital status was stated – single, married, widowed, or divorced
NO family relationship was stated – brother, sister, cousin, son, daughter, wife, inlaw, etc…
NO occupation was stated
NO parental birthplaces are stated
NO race was stated [but assume “white”]

1850, 1860 & 1870 census records do not show family relationships, marital status or parental birthplaces.

Step children are not enumerated as “step” children
Adopted children are not enumerated as “adopted”
Grand children are not enumerated as “grand children”
Orphaned children were not enumerated as "orphan"

1850 is the 1st census that shows all family members

1880 is parental birthplaces and family relationships +++

NOTE -
Michigan did not require “by law” birth, marriage & death registrations until 1867.

That's why you can't find a birth record.

1880 -
Name: Adelade Corbeille [note spelling]
Age: 34
Birth Year: abt 1846
Birthplace: Michigan
Home in 1880: Schoolcraft, Houghton, Michigan
Race: White
Gender: Female
Relation to Head of House: Wife
Marital Status: Married
Spouse's Name: Purre Corbeille
Father's Birthplace: Michigan
Mother's Birthplace: Michigan
Occupation: Keep House

Purre Corbeille 35, Canada - blacksmith
Adelade Corbeille 34, MI
Albert Corbeille 17, MI
Carlie Corbeille 15, MI
Willie Corbeille 13, MI
Minnie Corbeille 11, MI
Eddy Corbeille 9, MI
Ida Corbeille 7, MI
Edmund Corbeille 5, MI
Lillie Corbeille 2, MI
Hi, Tried to email you but came back as invalid address.
Hi,
I just got your message on the message boards at ancestry.com. I am very interested in finding out more information on this part of my family. I found out some info for my GG Grandmother, Adeliade Lamirande, and her husband Peter Corbeil, who lived in Michigans Upper Pennisula, and their children. But was never able to find a birth record for Adelaide and find out who her parents and family were. I found info saying she was born in Sault Sainte Marie, MI about 1844 or 45, had a brother named Frank and on her death record it said her father was John B. I did find a family where the father was John Bte. Lamirande, who lived in Sault Sainte Marie and had a daughter Adelaide, and son Francis, but the ages and further census records did not fit together with my Adelaides. Just this past year I connected to a researcher of this line, who is working on Ojibwe Indian family records from Chippewa County, and he helped me put some info together on the connection to John Baptiste Bonneau family. Then I found a 1850 and 1860 census from Sault Sainte Marie, MI with Adelaide Lemerande (spelled a little different on some records) and Frank Lemarande both living with John Bono (also different spelling on some records) as their Grandfather. The ages fit with this Adelaide and Frank and the ones in my tree, so I am almost sure it is them. I believe John Baptiste Bonneaus daughter, Adlinad Bonneau, born 1825, is the mother of Adelaide and Frank, and father was Frank Lamirande. Just don't know what happened to them. Any help you can offer would be appreciated.
Thank you for replying,
Sue

My grandfather was Clifford Harrison. I miss him so much even though he has been gone since October 1983. No one has ever been able to fill his shoes. I know much more about him and his family now than I did while he was alive. He did not want us to delve too deeply into his painful past. He loved his kids and grandkids with a passion and we all knew it. He had an enormous personality and within minutes of entering a room he captured everyone's attention with his charm and joyous attitude. I was at his side with my grandmother, my father, my aunt and my brother when he died. I believe he saw heaven at that moment for his face showed a great amazement. I know that I will join him someday to live in the House of the Lord forever. Lynne Marie Harrison Piippo

I am researching the family for their descendants, as a friend. Michael & Mary Milbauer lived in Sault Ste. Marie, and had their 10 children there. They had come over from Germany and Germany/Austria. Their baby son, Micheal, is buried in Riverside Cemetery. I can't find the death dates for Michael (father) or his wife Mary Khrill/Grill Milbauer. Hopefully someone can help me find their information and gravesites.

Thomas was actually born 26 Mar 1843 and baptized the 27th at St-Jacques-l`Achigan, Quebec, Canada and just using the last name Touin and died 25 Apr 1930 and rest at Riverside Cemetery in Sault Ste Marie, MI along with his wife.

There are others of us who are starting to collaborate and it's been helpful. Check this link out for some info on the folks you are looking for. My notes are scattered and I'm trying to organize what I have. I'm James McGowan's granddaughter (he was married to Maggie McGowan). http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~islandbish...
Finding records for Bonneau Family

Hi,
I recently made the connection with my GG Grandmother, Adelaide Lamirande, born abt 1844 in Sault Ste. Marie, Chippewa Co., MI and her Grandfather Jean Baptiste Bonneau (J.B or John Bono) on census records. I am trying to find any records on Adelaides Mother, Adlinad Bonneau, and father Francis Lamirande. Also need Marriage and Death record for Jean Baptiste. I have the dates on my tree from another researcher but cannot find records for proof. He supposedly married in 1825 in Canada to Dosithee Josephine Suave Laplante, and died in 1880 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Any help on this family would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Sue

Hi. I'm hoping perhaps someone might be able to help me locate a death date and a burial location for ELOISE MARIE. She died before 1915 but after 1910 in Sault. Ste. Marie. She lived with her daughter Augustine Oulette in 1910 at 122 Ferris St. I'm going to be in the area over Memorial day but not in time to get to the library before it closes.

Thank you so much in advance.
