I am looking for Eunice McDowell (her name may have been spelled MacDowell, McDole or Macdole, as all of these names are related.)
She married Samuel Dean on 16 Apr 1778, in Greenfield, MA.. They had a son, Alfred Dean, who was born about 1803 in Colrain, MA and who died in North Adams, MA in 1881.
Alfred Dean’s death record notes that his father Sam’l was born in England and his mother Eunice was born in Scotland.
I do not believe that she was the Eunice McDowell (nee Shaw) who married the Rev. Alexander McDowell in 1754 (in either Greenfield or near-by Colrain, MA) and then, as the widow Eunice McDowell (not Shaw), wed Samuel Hinsdale in 1763, in Greenfield, MA., The records show that Eunice, the wife of Samuel Hinsdale (who himself died in 1786), --- died in 1779 (there are two (2) records confirming this). As she was clearly still the wife of Mr. Hinsdale when she died, it doesn’t make much sense that she is the woman who married Samuel Deane in the previous year.
Additionally, the records show Samuel Deane marrying Eunice McDowell. If he were marrying the (former) wife of Samuel Hinsdale, the records would show him marrying Eunice Hinsdale.
A Eunice McDowell, of Palmer, MA, has been located -- but she was born in 1782.
I can find no record, to date, of the Rev. Alexander McDowell and Eunice (Shaw) McDowell having a child named Eunice, though there was a son, Alexander, born during their marriage.
She could be unrelated to Alexander and Eunice. She could be their as yet undiscovered daughter.
Eunice (McDowell) Dean seems to have been in Colrain, MA in 1810 (E. Dean in the 1810 US Census.) Samuel Deane is not listed (had he been, she would not have been listed.) In 1830, Alfred Dean is married to Aurelia Green (1810-1882) and living in Petersburg, Rensselaer, New York. Eunice is not shown with him ( and presumed deceased) but she may have resided in Petersburg at any time between 1810 and some time prior to 1830. I must admit to not having scanned the 1820 US Census Petersburg, NY for her.
Where be this woman ? Who be this woman ?
Any assistance or advice will be appreciated.
