Just that Earnest was born in 1889 in Nova Scotia Canada and was living with hiram & Hepsabeth Fales in Margaretsville NS in 1901 census. I haven't been able to find anything more on him in Nova Scotia so just assumed he also went back to the United States. There may not be any records of him there but thanks for trying.

Doris

I think I can help a little. Henry O'Neill of Skibbereen was my great great grandfather. He married twice, first to Bridget McCarthy who died and then he married Catherine Donovan by whom he had (I think) two children, Katie and John Henry. Henry, a publican and magistrate, died in 1894, leaving a pub in Skibbereen to his daughter Katie. She figured in the 1901 Census from Sibbereen, as do John Henry and William O'Neill, a law clerk. I think William is a son from Henry's marriage to Bridget (as is my lineage via James, another son). William figures on my grantfather's parents marriage certificate as a witness and on his baptismal register as a godparent. I have a record from John Henry's baptismal register as having married Elizabeth Donovan in Chelsea, Mass, on 25 June 1911. I have no other information on John Henry other than his US citizenship record.

I am Irish born, age 60, and migrated to Australia in 1956 with my parents. More information when you reply to this post.

Dennis O'Neill
Melbourne, Australia

Place of birth is MA. His parents place of birth MA but for the 1920 place of birth for parents is: Father=Ireland, Mother-MA. So I don't know what you should believe.

Hi Carole,
Thank you for your research.I do have info on the Gunning family and I'm trying to make contact with another descendent. I am a ggg-granddaughter of Timothy. However the Timothy you write about was married to Margaret Donovan and his parents were Timothy and Margaret (Greeley) Gunning, who I don't believe ever left Ireland.
Timothy and Margaret (Donovan) did have three sons Patrick born 1846 died 1847 Timothy born 1849 and John 1852.
Kerian was a relative, because he is listed on the 1850 Massachusetts census as being 12 years old and living with Timothy and Margaret, but he is not their son.
He married a Julia Hackett in Boston on September 25, 1859.
He was 22 yrs old at the time. His parents on the marriage certificate are listed as Patrick and Bridget(no surname) and she was 20 yrs old and born in Maine.
Are you a descendent of these people?
Thank you Kathy.....contois7464@aol.com

I have not been there for a couple of years, but this is how it was:
There is a $9 per hour charge for your time, not for theirs. You do your own look ups in large printed index books. Some indexes are on computer. One of their clerks goes into the storage area and pulls the document(s) you want to examine.
Old ones are on microfilm.
There is an additional charge for certified copies. Otherwise you can take whatever notes you want from the document. There is no copy machine available nor would you be allowed to make a copy if there was one. I don't know if they allow you to use a digital camera, something that was not that common when I was last there.

Boy, thanks so much for staightening me out on Florence. I thought she was Daniel's sister. I think Conway must be her mother, Hanah's, 2nd husband's surname. I talked with the Catholic cemetery in Boston and Florence is buried with Hannah Conway d. 1907 @ age 53 and Mary Conway d. 1891 @ age 2. John Conway paid for the burials but he is not there.
Thanks Again,
Dan

You mentioned Malden. I think theres a cemetary there Holy something, I should know this, as some of my family is buried there, but its slipped my mind, Maybe Holy Cross.
Surely someone at the Archiodeces can tell you that. or maybe someone seeing this who knows more than I do can.

I also have O'Donnell's buried there. Its funny your looking for Hugh, because that is a missing brother of my grandmothers. or a cousin. We haven't been able to determine that yet. When my late aunt died, she left some paper work, and Hugh O'Donnell was on it.
Do you happen to know the surname of his wife Catherine, thats interesting to me because my grandmothers brother Denis married a Catherine McLaughlin. and had 3 sons.
Lived in Everett, died there around 1970, and is buried in Malden.
Do you know anything about Hugh O'Donnell's parents or sibblings?
Hi!! Just checking back with you in case you have any new info. I am still trying to figure out who is our great-grandfather's father and mother. No matter which way I go I can't make a connection further back from William Seward/Seaward *our great-grandfather-- you mentioned your mom might have some information. If you could ask her if she knew William's parents names- even just their first names (for the wife) that would be great.

I did write to Eleanor McHugh (William Seaward Jr's daughter) and I sent her a book I wrote. I've not heard back from her- so i don't know if she is still alive or if she even got the book and letter.

This family research thing takes alot of patience!! ha ha!

connie

I was wondering if anyone has visited the Vital Records in Boston near the Bayside Expo?

On their website they say it is $9 an hour for research - does that mean if they have to help you with research 0r can you do the 'looking up' yourself. I have been to Mass Archives and you can look at the microfilms yourself at no cost.

Thanks
Re: Hugh O'Donnell Cemetery Search

Hi Barbara,

Thanks for the answer. Hugh was not buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden because he died in 1865 before it was opened. It's interesting that his wife and one of his sons and a daughter are buried there and not wherever he was buried. Hugh was born in Ireland in 1820 - would be very interested if the dates are close to your grandmother's but I think there were a lot of Hugh O'Donnell's. Another fact of interest is that his wife Catherine also had a last name of O'Donnell! I don't know what that's about but those Irish - you never know. marilee
