My great grandfather, Michael O'Reilly, born in Bawnboy, County Cavan, Ireland around 1813-18 married Margaret Hauver, born in Canada around 1834. They lived in Lowell, had a child, Susan, born there on 21 Mar 1857, at North St.
I believe Susan was their first child. Does St. Anne Parish
Lowell Directory include a record of the marriage in Lowell
in the 1850s? 1840s? I will appreciate any efforts you make
to research this question.

I am not certain that this is the right one, but the age is about right. His parents' names are not listed, unfortunately. (Vol. 284, p. 204).
William O'Riley, son of Michael and Margaret, married Nellie Regan on Feb 17, 1887 in Woburn, MA. (Vol. 380, p. 304)

More later.
MR

Additional research reveals that Michael [O]Reilly and Margaret Hauver /Hawver were probably married in Canada around 1840. Their first 3-4 children were born in Canada.
This family appears on the 1851 census in St-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, Quebec, but some of the data re: place of birth is erroneous. The family consists of Michael Riley (38), Mary Hauver (29), Peter Riley (9), Margaret Riley (8) Catherine Riley (6) and Benjamin Riley (4); all said to have been born in Ireland except Benjamin. However, Drouin Microfilm from the parish of St-Valentin shows that Catherine Reilly, Daughter of Michael Reilly and Margaret Hauver was baptized on 4 April 1847 in St-Valentin, having been born "last Thursday". (attached).Michael's signature is on the record.
Benjamin Reilly, son of Michael Reilly and Margaret Hauver, was born 27 Mar 1849 and was baptized on the 29th at St-Valentin, Quebec, Canada.
The family is living in Billerica on the 1960 census (attached). Michael born in Ireland, wife Margaret born in Canada; children Peter, Margaret, and Benjamin are listed as having been born in Canada, while daughters Susan and Lize (age 8 months) were born in Massachusetts.
Elizabeth Riley was born Sept 7, 1859 in Billerica. (Vol 124, p. 42) Father michael born in Ireland, mother Margaret born in Canada.
I have quite a bit more information, which I will send separately. See your messages in Ancestry.

Margaret

Would you believe that John Twist had a brother named Oliver Twist?

MR

I have a few items of interest for you.
Please see attachments.
December 29, 1878 Watertown, MA marriages
John Leonard, resident of Watertown, MA, age 25, hostler, born in Lowell, MA, son of William and Elizabeth, first marriage
and
Mary Ann Gillen, of Watertown, age 24, born in Patterson, New Jersey, daughter of Bernard and Mary Ann; first marriage.
Officiating: M. M. Green, Catholic Clergyman, Watertown.
You might try contacting St. Patrick Parish,212 Main Street
Watertown, MA 02472 Phone: (617) 926-9680 Fax: (617) 926-3715. They may have a record of this marriage in their parish archives. Elizabeth's maiden name might be listed there.
I found the family of John Leonard (age 5) with parents William (age 40) and Elizabeth (age 38) on the 1860 census, Lowell, MA. William and Elizabeth born in Ireland.
In the same household are John's siblings, Margaret, age 3 and James, age 1
John Leonard, son of William and Elizabeth, was born Feb 5, 1854 in Lowell, MA. (Vol. 828, p. 110) No maiden name given.
I looked up the birth records of Margaret and James Leonard. Margaert Leonard, daughter of William and Elizabeth, was born June 20, 1857 in Andover, MA (Vol. 105, p. 215) James Leonard, son of William and Elizabeth, was born March 17, 1859 in Lowell, MA (Vol. 124, p. 120). No maiden name given in either case.
The only marriage I can find of a William Leonard to an Elizabeth between 1850 and 1855 is on July 4, 1851, William Leonard and Elizabeth Gerrity, married in Lawrence, MA Both from Ireland. Vol. 54, p. 164. I cannot be sure this is the correct couple.
If I find anything else of interest, I'll let you know.
MR

In 1900 the John Patrick Rowe family is living in Marlboro, Middlesex County, MA. In the household is John's wife Ellen F. who was born in Jan. 1864 according to the census. Ellen F. Rowe was the daughter of Frances E. Hartnett and Patrick Fitzgerald. The Fitzgerald family is found in Worcester County, Ma in the 1870 and 1880 census. I am searching for the parents of Frances E. Hartnett Fitzgerald. In 1880 there is an Ellen Hartnett, 74 years old, born in Ireland, shown as a mother-in-law living in the Patrick Fitzgerald household in Worcester County.

Is there anyone on the board who can help me with this family?

Thank you,
Wanda Karnes

Tina,
Thanks for the lookup!
It is relative - gggrandfather's brother - Joseph, wife Bridget. I was looking for their mother - Catherine. Just found her on the 1850 Census with the other brother Bernard and his wife Elizabeth. Looking for her now on the 1855 Mass Census - not much luck. 1850 - all of them were in Boston, 1860 - West Cambridge which became Arlington. The Catharine that I'm looking for is not on the 1860 with them so she had to have died - but I can't find her death. Was trying to pinpoint the year - either between 1850-1860 or 1850-1855.

Thanks
Margaret
The 1930 Census for Somerville has Celesta Veroneli, with husband Arisdodemo Veroneli living at 82 Alpine St. Somerville. They have children Mary & Aldo. Mary is 10 years old. If this is the same Celesta/Celestina she was married at the time of the envelope and her name was no longer Sartori.

I understand, through word of mouth, that the church my dad was buried from(message above) in West Quincy MA, has changed its denomination. It was I think a Luthern Church at the time dad died in 1952, but not now. The entire neighborhood has changed apparently. At one time there were many Finnish, and Scandinavian's in general in W Quincy, but now I think its mostly non-whites, from everywehre.

If anyone knows this not to be the case please tell me.
I hate being mis led like most of you. I can only go on what I've been told since getting to W Quincy myself these days is difficult to say the least.

Thank you again. and again. Does anyone have any idea who would have the records from his funeral,?

Barbara

Samuel Skinner, b. 1731, Westford

Samuel Skinner was born 3 Sep 1731 in Westford Mass. A son of William Skinner and Elizabeth Bird. William came from the Isle of Man. He was born in 1703 in the Isle of Man. He married Mary Jewell in 1722 in Westford, MA and had Joseph born 1723 and William born 1725. Mary evidently died and he married Elizabeth Bird in Westford, MA. They had Samuel born 1731, Sarah born 1733, Benjamin born 1734, and Elizabeth born 1735. William's parents were William Skinner, born 1672 and Joney Quayle, born 1676. They were married in 1692, and had Jo born 1700, Wiliam 1703, and Ann born 1705. William's parents were Eawan Skinner born ------and Joney Gowan/Gowne born ----------. They were married in 1660 and had Will, 1663, Elin 1666, An 1671, and William 1672. That is about all I can find at this time. Samuel moved to Vermont when Putney was just a fort. He was one of the first pioneers to Putney. I have a lot of information I can give you about the family. Send me your email address and I can send it all to you. I have everything documented.

My grandfather and his sister did travel to England a couple of times as children - I just confirmed that with my dad. I think is the same family.

1926 envelope to Celestina SARTORI of Somerville from Varsi, Parma, Italy

I recently found a photograph of an old envelope that was sent to Celestina SARTORI of Somerville from Varsi, Parma, Italy in 1926. You can see the envelope on http://philgen.org (search on SARTORI, click on View, and scroll to the bottom of the page), or click on the link below. I am unable to find Celestina SARTORI in a census or similar source and wondered if someone more familiar with Somerville can find him/her. I believe that Varmi may be the birthplace of Celestina SARTORI and/or his/her parents and this envelope will be helpful to someone in their genealogical research. The reason I have a photo of the envelope is because of my interest in using old envelopes and postcards in genealogical research. I have an article in the spring 2009 issue of New England Ancestors entitled Philatelic Genealogy (viewable at the philgen website) and have started the philgen website.

Here is a direct link to the photo of the envelope: http://philgen.org/index.php?option=com_fabrik&c=form&am...

Celia used Ann/Annie for her given name. Her brother John H. didn't marry. So for me I've run into a dead end as for finding living relatives.Seems like I'm doing that a lot with my Irish ancestors. Thanks for your concern. Hutchinson
Born 1905 in Somerville Ma and died 1905 same.
Her mother might have been Catharine/Catherine Wipfler Hutchinson. Hazel is buried in St. Pauls Arlington Ma
on the same plot as Alois & Annie WIpfler. Plus John Wipfler and Mary Wipfler.Any info would be a big help on connecting her to these people.
I have seen her listed in the Ma archives birth/death but nothing else.

Notre Dame of Lowell

Looking for a directory?? to find a relative that may have been there - is there anything like a directory for a convent or church? or maybe a Lowell directory??.

The person is Mary Furfey. Never found her on the 1880/1900/1910/1920/1930 Census. Never found her death. Happen to find her father's will - in it he gives money to Notre Dame of Montreal Canada that his daughter Mary has joined. I tried searching the 1880 Census for a 'Sister Mary' b 1854 Mass and I found someone that could be her at Notre Dame in Lowell, MA. I just thought there might be another way to see if she was there.

Thanks
