I found the death for a Pierre Lapanne who died 03 December 1894 in New Bedford, Mass. He was buried in Easthampton, Mass, his parents were Laurent Lapan and Eliza Deforge and he was 73 years - 7 months at time of death (born about 1821).
There was no wife listed. I do have a Peter Gaboriau married to a Henriette Bonneault/Bono. Henriette died in Mass in 1915 and one of the sons, Alfred Peter Lapan married an Emma Greenough in Easthampton in 1882. They both died in Easthampton.
I suspect these Peters are one and the same. Does anyone have anything on either of the Peter Lapans??

I'm Alfred Lapan and Emma Greenough's great, great grandchild and I have some information that might be helpful.
According to a family history that my aunt compiled Afred's name is Alfred La Lapan (1859-1942) and was born in Georgia, Vermont he is the son of Peter Lapan and Harriet Lapan.
Peter Lapan was most likely born in Vermont or maybe even Canada, as was his wife Harriet. But the different names, Lapanne, Gaboriau, are interesting. I wonder why he would have so many names if indeed they are his. It could have something to do with hiding his Abenaki heritage.

I would be very interested in any more information you find about Peter Lapan. If you would like I have a very small photo of Alfred and his family sitting in a field in front of their farm in Easthampton, MA.

I am related to Greenough's Greeno's Grignon's in Eastampton.
My Grandfather Peter L.Young was b.Swanton Vt.to Peter and Sophia Greenough, he moved to Easthampton where he met my grandmother Katherine Figgie. Some of the Young's and Greenough's also moved to Easthampton.I will have to check on Emma.

Emma Greenough was born in Swanton VT as well. She was born in 1862 and died on August 2, 1937 in Easthampton, MA. According to my aunt, Emma's mother and father were Adolphus Greenough and Mary Guertin.
I have no idea if she had siblings or not, but I bet she did.
I've attached *at least tried to attach* a very old picture of Emma, Alfred and two of their kids, on their Easthampton farm.

So what do you think, are we distant relatives?

I think there is a connection but not sure how. I have an Aldopo Greenough b. 1858 in Swanton. I will have to do some searching I could not find an Emma Greenough in Easthampton vitals.I will get back to you.

Peter Lapan was born 13 Jun 1821 in Marieville, Quebec as Pierre Gaboriault. The full name was Gaboriault dit Lapalme (french canadians tended to have two names.) In the US he used Lapan, an anglized version of Lapalme but was Lapalme when he went back to Quebec. Sometimes the name became Lapanne or Lapine. Some of his children were baptised in Dunham, Quebec and they used the name Gabriaut there but Lapan in Georgia, VT where they were born. They were not trying to hide Abenaki connections - I actually have not found any Abenaki connections in the Lapan/Gaboriau(lt)/Lapalme lines but there are indications that some of the Vermont Lapan's wives may have had Abenaki connections. Peter married Henriette "Sophronia" Bonneau about 1853. Peter's father was Laurent Lapan (born Pierre Laurent Gaboriault in St Mathias in 1784, married to Elizabeth "Lizzie" Desforges on 24 Aug 1819 in St Hyancinthe, Quebec.

I'm so excited I get to build onto my tree, but I have a few questions if you don't mind. What does the word "fireeman" after "George Fredrick Lapan" mean? And his sister Emma, is "Farmer" her married name? Also do you know which sibling was born where?

I especially like Elizabeth "Lizzie" Desforges's name since it reminds me of Madame Defarge in "A Tale of Two Cities". But I guess that’s neither here nor there.

Do you know who the Lapan wives were with Abenaki lineage? And is all of this information from the ancestory.com records? I have a free account so I don’t get access to the good stuff.
