Oh boy,
Lex, that sounds like one heck of a way to spend an evening beating yourself up; or getting beaten down! Either this guy was a real black sheep in the family or they really aren't related. Here is Craig's listing, but no phone #:

That's probably why the operator didn't have it. You should try using WhitePages.com.
I've tried looking for the daughter that was listed in the obit, Neddeidth Gregory; she is in Pawtucket, RI, too, apparently, but she is not listed.
Here is the listing for Richard, on Ancestry.com Public Records; one with a phone # and one at same address w/out a phone #. He may have changed his # and that is why; or he just made it unlisted.

Sometimes it is better to write letters because you can appeal to someone on the behalf of your daughter before the person has a chance to cut you off on the phone. You know what I mean? Some people will not take the time to listen to you on the phone, assuming you are a solicitor or con artist or whatever; but a letter gives them the chance to actually find out what you want w/out having to make an immediate response. I think I would start right off in the letter talking about your daughter and what exactly is the reason for your letter.
I cannot think of anything else to do, really. The only other thing you could do to find his obituary is maybe try the library in Fall River. You can request a look up and it seems like they have the year of Anderson's death; but it's a bit of a longshot. They seem to only charge $2 for a lookup.
http://www.sailsinc.org/fallriver/research.html#obitHaverhill Public Library has newspapers local to there also, but I can't figure out whether they will do lookups or not. You could try calling the Reference Dept. and see what happens:
http://www.haverhillpl.org/Departments/reference.htmlIt helps that you have a death date. It makes looking for an obit a lot easier.
Keep me posted...I'm emotionally invested in this now!
Best wishes,
Lisa
