Former Lions President Dies
Francis William Crowley
Was Ill Three Years
Francis William Crowley, 73, a life member and a past president of the New Bedford Lions Club, died yesterday at his home, 425 Court Street, after an illness of three years. He was the husband of Mrs. Frances (Parker) Crowley.
Born in Providence, he came to New Bedford as a youngster. An employee of the New Bedford Gas and Edison Light Company for more than 32 years, he retired five years ago as office manager of the company. He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Stetson Club.
Mr. Crowley was rescued from a 10-foot hole behind Potter Street a year ago after being the subject of an intensive search by the Boy Scouts. He was found by 13 year old James Costa of 122 Bonney Street.
Survivors, besides his widow, are one daughter, Mrs. Mary Westgate (previously Mrs. Campbell) of New Bedford of New Bedford and two granddaughters, Betty May and Eleanor Stewart Campbell.
