Hi, Mary Sumner is in my family tree. She was born in Maryland in 1696. There seems to be some debate about whether her father was William Sumner and who his wife was. Does anyone here have any legit info?
Thanks!

Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Employee Records

Not too long ago I was googling around and came across an e-book or some other electronic files that had very specific information: dates, places, job descriptions for B & O RR employees. Some distant Linthicum cousins were included. The time frame would have been the 1850's and 60's.

I just found at this site
Berkeley County West Virginia
Early Newspaper Extracts

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wvberkel/newspapers_l.html...

more vague details about the deaths of a couple of these individuals and now I would like to find the Online B & O RR records again.

From other posts and googling my brain out I know you can contact the B & O RR Hist Assn but this was online and ready to read.

HELP

Birth Father

Hello,

My name is Brian Louis Fedder, my ADOPTED name. I was adopted at birth and here’s the only information I have.

1.	I was born October 1, 1968

2.	The adoption agency was Maryland Children’s Aid Society, Inc. in Westminster County. Mrs. Mattare and Miss Francis Mansfield handled my paperwork and adoption.

3.	The Degree of Adoption was from Circuit Court #2 in Baltimore City, Md

4.	My birth certificate states the hospital I was born in Hagerstown, Md. And the name of the hospital wasn’t listed.

6.	I’m White and my faith is Hebrew.

7. The Fedder Tree on Ancestry is the ancestor’s of my adopted parents.

State of Maryland has found my mother and I’m still in the process of reaching her. She lived in Alaska during the great flood, with my step-father and they had 2 sons and a daughter. All of them returned to Virginia. I’m the result of my birth mother having an affair with my birth father. I don’t believe my birth father ever knew about me. Since my DNA is retrieving hits I’m hoping to find anyone in my birth family.

If you can be any help for me finding my blood family I would be forever grateful. My 4-yr old son has autism and I need medical information. Thank you and God Bless – Brian

I'm looking for vital (birth, death, obituary, will, probate) records and burial location of George M. HOLLAND and wife, Bridget (DEVINE) HOLLAND, AKA Mary Bridget DEVINE.

George and Bridget were married by Father James DOLAN on 13 August 1853 [Date corrected as of March 2013] in Baltimore city (exact location unknown). I have copy of Balt. Sun marriage announcement, 19 August 1853.

George and Bridget had children: Araminta (HOLLAND) ALLENDER; Carrie, AKA Clara (HOLLAND) ALLENDER; Carville W. HOLLAND; Mary HOLLAND.

George HOLLAND was son of Aaron HOLLAND and Rebecca (ROBINSON) HOLLAND. George had brother John HOLLAND and other unknown siblings. John and George were coopers and lived with their mother, Rebecca HOLLAND, at the time of the 1850 census - at least she had the census taker enumerate their presence.

George worked as a cooper in Baltimore city 1850 until after he and Bridget married. There is some evidence that George lived and worked near McElderys wharf in Baltimore city in 1850, and as a result, he may have been double counted in the 1850 census.

Thereafter, George and Bridget and their family lived in Baltimore city until some years before the 1870 census. There is some evidence that George HOLLAND and family lived in or near Govanstown (now northern Baltimore city) in 1860.
By 1870, George HOLLAND and family was established in a home near the intersection of Fork and Bottom Roads, east of Baldwin, MD.

There are two possibilities about the immigration of (Mary) Bridget DEVINE. The first is that Bridget DEVINE arrived into the port of Baltimore in June-Augusut 1849 as a 19-20 year old single woman without family who accompanied her. In this case, she lived in a Baltimore city rooming house at the time of the 1850 census.
The second possibility is that Bridget DEFINE likley emigrated from Ireland in September 1846 with family members of the same last name. She was between ten and sixteen years of age at the time of here arival in Baltimore. In either case, Bridget lived in Fells Point area, Baltimore city and likely met George HOLLAND in his work as a Cooper near Fells Point.

Family records indicate that George HOLLAND died in 1884 and that Bridget (DEVINE) HOLLAND died in December 1894. They likely are buried in St John's catholic cemetery in Long Green / Hydes, MD where they likely were part of the parish. [Bridget HOLLAND death & burial date & cemetery location corrected in March 2013 thanks to info provided by Dr. Rodgers]

Thanks, Joe

Some of my ancestors were Irish Indentures on my maternal father's side, Indian and mixed descent on my maternal mother's side.

Does anyone else have the following surnames linked by marriage:

Wiseman
Linkins
Proctor
Butler
Hi, Karen-

I'm able to research "The Baltimore Sun" through Historical U.S. Newspapers from Proquest. It's a resource that's available through my public library's website. You don't have to be in the library to use it; you access it with the barcode from your library card. Currently, the site has 17 newspapers that are searchable, to include "The Baltimore Sun". A related site is Heritage Quest Online which allows you to search the census, as well as books and other publications. I'm in Maryland, but I know that Heritage Quest and the Proquest Historical Newspaper sites are available via public libraries across the country.

Another great resouce for locating burial information is www.findagrave.com. You can search by name of deceased or specific cemeteries. Unfortunately, there isn't much on Loudon Park Cemetery, and there weren't many Shawn listings in general. Many of them were located in the Maryland Eastern Shore counties, which may explain the reference to Eastern Shore newspapers in James Shawn's obit.

I hope this helps.

Leigh

James H. Shawn died on died on 9-18-1924. His death certificate number is D-90401. This information comes from the Maryland State Archives (MSA) death records here:

http://guide.mdsa.net/series.cfm?action=viewDetailedSeries&a...

I don't know if a 1924 Maryland death cert includes a burial place. I have some from the 1930s and 1940s which do. Another from 1907 does not. You can call the MSA and ask.

James' death certificate can be purchased with the D-90401 number. It used to be my mail only. You may have more options now. The MSA is a bit slow, but so are most states. For ordering details, see http://mdvitalrec.net/cfm/index.cfm & http://www.mdvitalrec.net/cfm/dsp_faq.cfm & http://msa.maryland.gov/

I took a quick look for Avis and didn't see her in the CE42 files for 1940, 1941 and 1942. There's a gap in the data for the years 1943 to 1949. They can be found here:

http://mdvitalrec.net/cfm/dsp_search.cfm

I don't see anything for Avis (Shawn or Shaw) there, either. I didn't check for Elsie.

Good luck with your research,
Linda

p.s. I've also attached an 1881 obituary for Benjamin Offley Shaw, a son of James and Avis. The child is buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. I find no mention of him or his parents in any online database for Mt. Olivet, however.

Their family used to be groundskeeper at the Prince Georges race track. Louise married my great grandfather, James Melvin Marsellas, and had three children. In approx. 1944, she left and returned home to her parents. She wrote a letter to my great grandfather with an update saying that she had another child name *Benard Rowe (name may not be right). I'm trying to find her actual birth date, and information on who she married and the children she had after 1944. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

No specific information.
Margaretha is a first name that appears in my family in Aalen Germany. (Baden-Wu:rtemberg)

There is a famous expression in genealogy "Hiding under a middle name." In German areas it was common to use a 'Rufnamme' or call name. We would see this as a middle name. However the practice in Germanic areas was to use the first name only in Church mattters especially baptismal certificates.
SO... Margaretha might be under a baptism name like Maria Margaretha Smith.
I discovered that my grandfather was baptized Heinrich Ludwig Hormann. He used the name Ludwig Hormann here in the USA. This was discovered by the pastor of an Evangelical (Lutheran) church in the town were he was baptised. (that was not the village where he was born.
That village was too small to have a parish.) The information was in the 'Familiabuchen' from the church.

Hello! I think we are distant relatives. The names, dates and places you mention line up with my family tree.

My great grandfather was Harold Rudd who came to the US. My grandmother, often spoke of the Looney family who also came over. She was very fond of them. She remembered that somewhere along the way they changed their last name to Lowell. John "Jack" Looney was a music teacher, I think she said, and he didn't think he could be taken seriously with that name and changed it. Perhaps try searching where your trail leaves off for the same first names but as Lowell. I haven't started that line yet. Good luck! There's tons of info on them in Liverpool. Let me know if you need some tips going back to there.

It maybe too far removed for your family to know about, but does anyone on your side know anything about Harold Rudd's wife, Gertrude Snyder? I'm having a hard time tracing her.

-Gail
