Does anyone have information on a James Bishop, b. 1815 in or around Snow Hill, MD. He was African American, free person, and I think he was a slave holder that owned 300 acres of land in Box Iron, MD. If you have come across this name in your research please contact me. Thank you.

Don't think I have anything prior to old than 1900. William and Lizzie Bishop lived and raised a large family in Box Irons. Edna and lived and worked from my parents and raised me. She was special to me and married to Charles Taylor and went to Taylorgate and lived in indiantown. Edna, was buried near to Girdletree. Hope that might help. peggy

Peggy thank you for your reply. I am familar with Taylor's Gate AME Church, as I have modern day relatives who still attend services there. I am most likely related to William Bishop as my Bishop relatives were in the Box Iron area, and are in the Snow Hill area today.

It is always fun to realize that someone is looking for family. Though I didn't know William Bishop, the father, Edna and her sisters were often in my home. I also knew that Edna had, I believe 2 brothers. Edna's father was well respected for the Box Iron area. My Dad grew up in the same area. Thanks if you are hear from Lois or Wislie I would say hello. peggy
