In your reply you mentioned a Thomas Smack. It happens that the William Ingersoll I was looking for ( the uncle to the William in your reply) was married to a Sarah Smack whose father was Thomas and his wife was Catherine. The 1870 census shows the Smacks living in Sandy Hills which I believe is now Stockton. So by accident it appears I have possibly found where my G grandfather met my G grandmother.
