Is anyone familiar with Harters in Washington County? The family of Joh. Georg Harter and Eva Bracker appeared in the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in 1769. Most of the family moved on to Virginia about 1792, but Jacob (1760-1824) and M. Magdanin Harter stayed behind. Five children are listed in Jacob's will, George, Jacob, Judith, John W. and David. I know that John and family moved to Iowa. David and most descendants seem to have stayed in Maryland, and one grandson, George Abraham Harter, became the president of the University of Delaware. I have minimal information of the other three. All I have on George is that he married Sarah Bebout and they lived in Harrison County, WV. However, I did find that she was born in Washington County, PA, so I am not certain that the George Harter she married was actually son of Jacob. Any information on this family would be appreciated.
