Hi! I am on a quest to see if my greatgrandmother's claim to being a granddaughter of the Calvert family is true. Her name was Lillie Elmira Sewell, born to Robert F. Sewell and Emily Cummings in Talbot County. On Emily Cummings Sewell's death certificate, her mother was listed as Nancy Sewall(married name Cummings)--birthplace, St Mary's County. While going through Sewell wills in Talbot County, I found the will of Nancy Sewell who left property, left to her by her father Thomas Sewell, to her son Thomas Sewell. While describing said property she used Bernard Cummings' (husband to Nancy)property as a boundry and she left money to a daughter named Nancy. I also believed she mentioned a son Nicholas and her will was dated in the early to mid 1800's.
After explaining this confusing story to a Cummings researcher, who has some Sewell knowledge, she suggested that the claim to the Calverts might be due to the fact that Jane Lowe married Phillip Calvert after the death of her husband Henry Sewell.
Was there another Sewell family other than the Henry Sewell family, and descendants, in the St. Mary's area? And can anyone put me in contact with someone who is researching this family?
Thanks and regards,
