Not yet...it seems as if he just appeared on earth without parents! I can't find even a hint of his parent's names or anything about them. It makes me wonder if he was an orphan...but with a name like Greenbury, which seems like a family name, I will keep searching.

I descend from his son Charles Basil. He was my grandfather's grandfather. Not sure what level of cousin that makes us but I'm sure somebody could figure it out!
Thanks for the reply, cousin!

I am seeking to find the location of Queen Ann's Parish in Montgomery County, Maryland. This location is cited in connection with a number of Dowdens. For example Nathaniel Dowden is reported to marry Susannah Catherine at this place in abt 1750. Alas, the county did not then exist.

Timeline:

1695 Prince George's County formed from Charles and Baltimore Counties
1746 Frederick County formed from Prince George's County
1776 Montgomery County formed from Frederick County

I found a Queen Ann's Parish in Prince George's County near what today is Upper Marlboro. The church is now called St Barnabas.

I would appreciate any leads.

Carroll-Shaw Marriage 1910 Glen Echo, Montgomery County, Maryland

The Washington Post
Wednesday, September 21, 1910
STEALS MARCH ON PARENTS
Miss Hazel Shaw Becomes a Bride In Alexandria
Young Daughter of Proprietor of Glen Echo Park Secretly Weds Walter H. Carroll
When Miss Hazel Shaw, 18-year-old daughter of Lorenzo D. Shaw, proprietor of Glen Echo Park, left her home late Wednesday, ostensibly to visit Washington friends, there was nothing in the minds of her parents to lead them to believe that Cupid had anything to do with the young woman’s trip.

Miss Shaw stole a march on her friends and parents when she came to Washington by becoming the bride of Walter H. Carroll, also aged 18, son of Walter C. Carroll, of Glen Echo, [Montgomery County], Maryland. They were married Wednesday afternoon in Alexandria. As soon as the knot was tied the couple returned to Glen Echo, intending to keep their marriage a secret until they were ready to move into their own home.

Carroll, however, made the mistake of confiding the news to a younger brother, who yesterday told “the secret” to the father of the bridegroom.

When the wedding became known the parents of young Carroll invited their son to bring his bride, who had returned to the home of her parents immediately after the ceremony, to their home. He did so and the “newlyweds” are now part of the Carroll household. The bride’s parents also extended their blessing.

The young people had been sweethearts for a long time, but Mr. Shaw, it is said, on account of the youth of his daughter, discourage Carroll’s attentions.

The Washington Post
Monday, July 29, 1912
L.D. SHAW IS DEAD.
Was Pioneer in Amusements and Built Glen Echo Park.
Lorenzo D. Shaw, one of the pioneer amusement men of this country, inventor of the famous “dip” and the man who first built a toboggan slide at Coney Island, died last evening at his residence, 1365 Park Road Northwest, after a lingering illness of six months. Death was due to vesical calculi. Mr. Shaw was 70 years of age.

In the summer of 1882 Mr. Shaw owned, built, and operated a toboggan at Coney Island. This created quite a sensation and was imitated in amusement parks all over the civilized world. Mr. Shaw also built several amusement devices at Revere Beach, near Boston, but for twenty years, both winter and summer, made his home at Coney Island.

Mr. Shaw came to Washington later and built the devices and buildings at Glen Echo Park. He was the first to conceive the idea of the thrill in mechanical amusement devices and as a result his world famous “dips” are installed in parks all over the country.

Mr. Shaw was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Trade and took an active part in celebrations of a civic nature.

He is survived by his children: Walter P. Shaw, Mrs. Annie Young, Mrs. W.H. Carroll, and Mrs. Lillian Thwing and his wife, Mrs. Alonzo Shaw.

Funeral services will be at the family home tomorrow at 2PM. Interment will be at Glenwood Cemetery.

3-14-2013

Looking for an obituary for a Mr. Mariano Gabriel who died at age 75 on October 1, 1970 in Kemp Mill Estates, Maryland. Was born in the Phillippines but later moved to America. Would like to get a printed copy if available; but if you prefer to send me a scanned image by e-mail, that would also be acceptable. Trying to find out if he had any surviving family, such as a wife and/or children. Thank you. keith345@hotmail.com (Genealogical Researcher)

Need help on Charles Andrews md Elizabeth (maybe Kilborn/Kilbourn ?)- son Edward, had three children- Elizabeth "Amy" Andrews md John Peter, (she was living last living with the Medley's in Noble Co., OH- Charles and Elizabeth's unknown daughter married Wm Medley -(per Charles' will)- William Andrews - I feel this is the Wm Andrews that married Verlinda (Malinda) Peters in 1813- Wm died bef Dec 1849 - Harrison or Tusacarwas Co, OH; was living in 1830 in Morresfield, Harrison Co., OH and 1840 living in Morresfield, Harrison, OH. Malinda Andrews - widow in 1850, living in Clay, Tusacarwas Co, moved to Chaleston, Coles, IL bef 1860 - Edwards; son - Philip Andrews married Phebe/Phoebe LNU, had three daughter also died 1849 - Clay, Harrison Co., OH. My Philip Andrews b 1827, Harrison Co., Ohio (GAR record) - both parents b Maryland, married Mary Ann Wilson - 1851 - Washington Co., OH - can not locate either in 1850, living near Malinda Lnu (Peters?) Andrews - in Charleston, Coles, IL in 1860. Could Philip Andrews (s/o Edward and Ann (Berry?) Cecil), be the Philip Andrews receiving large early land in Illinois, from Military service about 1809? Can any one verify which Edward married Verlina Peters? Do not have any children listed for Elizabeth (Amy) Andrews and John Peters. Have connected Mary Ann Andrews and Angeline Ann Andrews Hillard - Mary Ann was living with Angeline Ann Andrews Hillard family in 1880.

found this old message also. My mother grew up in Silver Spring, MD and first went to American University in DC, later went to Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, where she met my father. Harold and Mary moved to Asheville NC in the 60s, then moved to Fort Myers, Florida in the 70s, and finally moved to Winston-Salem, NC in the 80's to be close to my mother, where they both died, within a year of each other.

Thank you for directing me to the site. The 1763 hundreds map has nice detail, gives me a more complete picture than I had previously.
I am not aware of the Indian connection you mention with regards to my Crown family, unless it is a branch I have not looked at yet. It is my understanding that there are 2 groups of Crowns in Maryland: one that settled around St. Mary's/Charles County (Earliest known is Joseph Crown), and another around the Frederick area. The Southern Crowns (my family) moved north into Montgomery County and further so it was hard to determine if they had a common origin. Recently the Crown DNA group announced that they are not connected. But what I don't know about the Crowns could fill buckets.

After 40 years, I have found a treasure trove of grandparents in Montgomery/Frederick counties. In trying to indentify - I have abstracted several lists and collected numerous maps. You might want- 1763 Frederick Hundreds-
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~
midmdroots/maps/frmd1763.jpg
Several others - same site.
Do you find Crown/Crow/Cross - with Indian connections?
Carrie
