Walter,
I correspond with George
Dayhoff of
Texas. I recently was able to get
to view the microfilmed correspondence of Clarence
Dayhoff in the
Pennsylvania Genealogical Society. Here is the complete list of
Philip's children from Clarence's papers:
John 1791-1871
IllinoisAbraham 1795-1856
Greene Co, IN
David 1797-1867
Henry 1803-1884
Israel 1806
Bazzel 1809-1864
Owen Co, IN about 1848
Hannah 1811
Upton 1814-1842
There was a reference to a Nicholas
Dehoff in Maxatawney in 1756. Too
old to be the son of
Heinrich Dehoff in
York Co, PA. What I found in
Berks Co for Nicholas
Dehoff makes both George and I think this is the
Nicholas who is said to be the father of Philip and Frederick.
Nicholas is on the tax lists in
Berks Co for 1754 as a single man, 1759
as an inmate (living is someone's home), married in 1760, 1762, 1763 and
1764. He lived in
Greenwich Twp.
Nicolaes (sic) Deehoff and wife Gertraut had son Johan Peter b.
10-1-1763 and baptized 2-12-1764. Sponsors are Peter
Muller and wife.
John Hergereter married Anna Margaret Dehof (daughter of John Philip
Dehof) April 16, 1754.
Children of John Hergereter and Anna Dehof are:
Johann
Heinrich 14 Jan 1755
Johann Philip 5 May 1756
Jacob 9-24-1758
John Hergereter is also on the tax rolls in
Berks Co in 1760, 1762,
1763. He lived in Longswamp Twp. Which is next door to
Greenwich Twp.
Since the Hergereter family disappears from the tax rolls about the same
time the
Dehoff family does, I assume this is about the time they moved
to Maryland. Do you have any Hergereters in your tree?
Unfortunately, I could find no further reference to John Philip Dehof
who was the father of Anna Margaret and I think probably also the father
of Nicholas Dehof.

Heinrich Dehoff in
York Co, PA, but believe
both families must be related somehow!)
