Can anyone tell me the location of this place today? My Daniel Pittenger died at Detour, Md. in 1796 as did his wife, Elisabeth (Biggs) in 1794. Elisabeth's father was John Biggs who died Feb 1761 at Monocacy Manor, Md. Anyone know where either of these places are today? THANKS!

Detour was formerly Double Pipe Creek, it is in present Carroll county just over the bridge on route 77 that divides the counties.(once all Frederick) Although there was a Pittinger Cemetery at Millers Bridge just west of this, there are only three graves there.

Monacacy Manor is between Walkersville and Woodsboro. John Biggs leased lot #2 which he named "Biggs Delight". this lot is 2 miles west of Walkersville, road still named Biggs Ford Road.

After Elizabreth Biggs married Daniel Pittinger they also leased the adjoining acreage, but had other land further north too.

Thank you Anne! I am interested in Daniel and Elisabeth (Biggs) Pittenger as well as their son William and his # 2 wife Catherine UKN. Their daughter Catherine was suppose to be born in the area. Do you know anything about them and where they lived? Catherine married Maj. James Odell in Adams Co. Ohio and died in Cass Co. Mich. Do you know where Daniel and Elisabeth are buried? Anything else you can tell me I'd really appreciate. This has been my brick wall for eons! Glenda

Marriage records of Frederick Evangelical Reformed Church have Peter Schnock m. Polly Pipinger--15Mar1791. I can find no references (census, church, etc.) for the name Pipinger and believe it is a corruption of Pittinger. Further, Peter and Polly Schnock had son Daniel b.11Feb1792 (records of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, formerly St. Peter's Rocky Hill, near Woodsboro). Do you agree or have any information that might confirm the Pipinger/Pittinger name relationship. Could the son Daniel be named after his mother's father, your Daniel? Is there a Pittinger will, administrative accounts or deeds that name a daughter, Polly (or the equivalent: Mary/Maria) Snook? The son Daniel b.1792 is a crucial piece of information to connect Peter & Polly Snoke/Snook of Frederick with Peter in Fairfield Co., OH where both Peter and Daniel appear on the census there.
Peter's brother, Adam Snook lived near Ladiesburg and his wife lived with their son, John in Detour so the family lived in the area of your Pittingers.
