Elkton Marriage 1919 - Parental Info Provided?

Hi,
I am trying to find info on my great grandfather, as his marriage to my great grandmother was annuled, and never heard from again.

In the court notes of their annulment, the grounds were "intermarriage to a minor". She was 16 when they married, and we think he may have been jewish or native american.

I know they were married in Elkton on 30 Sep 1919, and I actually have the marriage certificate. The issue is that no parental info is provided on it... Was the parent's information required for a license in 1919?

I greatly appreciate any help!

Leah

Many marriage license applications asked for parents' names, but omitting them from the paperwork wouldn't prohibit a marriage.

Have you found your great-grandfather in the census records? Death records? If you're trying to find his parents than there are other sources to consider.

Regards,

Kelly

Hi Kelly,
I found him in the one census when he was living with my great grandmother, after that, I don't know as we don't know where he went after the marriage ended. So, I have a great grandfather, and NO idea who he is! I don't even have his date of birth, just an approximate year 1897, which he couldn've lied about... This is such a mystery to me, but I have very little info to go on.

I called the Cecil County Courthouse Marriage Division and they said in 1919 "Marriage Applications" were kept. On the other hand she said not everyone filled out an application and were married in one of Elkton's many Marriage Parlors of that era. Elkton is known as the marriage capitol of the United States because in its hayday they did not require blood test or a waiting period.

The courthouse has the applications available to see.

Happy Researching

Leah:

You have his name and appoximate birth year (1897): he should be in the WWI Draft Registration cards.

What was his full name and where was he last seen?

Kelly
