Am looking for final resting place of ancestor that died in 1839 in the vicinity of present day Sykesville. Does anyone know what cemeteries were in existence in 1839 in the vicinity of Sykesville?

Hi, I just noticed that you list the names of Easton and Hook in your message. I am related to a Hook but I have a skeleton in our closet.I was always told that my grandfather's mothers name was Nettie Redman and it was even on his SSN application, but when I sent away for his birth certificate there was a Mary Easton listed as his Mom. I have nothing on Mary and I was wondering since you are an Easton with a Hook thrown in there that maybe, well anything can be possible. My grandfathers name was Robert Joseph Archibald and naturally his parents were Harry Archibald and Mary Easton. Robert was born Sep 1901, in Baltimore Md. If you have any info that might be of use to me or you just want to say hi, well I'll be here. Thanks, Lucy

The Abel Brown (ca 1704 - 1796) homestead had a family cemetery near Sykesville. In his will, Abel expressed the wish that he be buried in his own orchard. That was the "Brown Cemetery" cited by McCallahan and further described in Carroll County Cemeteries Vol. 1 Southeast (Westminster MD: Carroll County Genealogical Society, 1989), p. 85 as the "Brown/Owings Cemetery." That cemetery, read in 1897 and then in poor condition, is now grown over and its stones lost. Those Browns were intermarried with Shipleys.
