I looking for more information on my 4x-great grandfather, Samuel T. Chase. Samuel was probably born in December of 1825 somewhere in Maryland. I do not know whether he was born free or enslaved. Samuel married my 4x-great grandmother Priscilla in 1845, and he was included in the 1850 and 1860 censuses, making him free. All records list him as mulatto, I was not able to locate a death record. Samuel and Priscilla had 13 children, but only five lived to be adults: Charles, David, Joseph, Mary Agnes and Esther. I have been unable to find a record of manumission for Samuel or a birth record. I do not even really know what records are available. I know that Samuel served in the 39th United States Colored Infantry from March 1864 to the end of the war. Samuel was a drayman in the mid 19th century. He died sometime after 1900.

What I would like to know:
* Was Samuel born free or enslaved (If enslaved who was he owned by and when was he freed and how)
* Was Priscilla born free or enslaved (If enslaved who was she owned by and when was she freed and how)
* What was Priscilla's maiden name and is there a marriage record.
* When exactly did Samuel pass away

BTW: A lot of the member trees contain false information, I have already tried that outlet.
