Classification: Query
Surnames: DUVALL, CHANEY
AROUND 1787, JEREMIA DUVALL led a group of settlers from Maryland into Bedford Co. Pa. Among this group
were several Chaney families. Grabriel Chaney, and
Edward Chaney, were brothers, both preachers and fathers of large families. Jeremia married their sister Nellie Chaney. The 1800c for Bedford Co is on line and will bear this out. About 1802 Jeremia Duvall, Doctor, Preacher, and leader, led a caravan, including Gabriel Chaney and Edward Chaney and Evan
Chaney and possibly others , into Ohio, settling in
Highland and Union Cos, Ohio. Jeremiah must have re-turned to Bedford, Pa. as he is still listed there in 1810c. It is stated in the Highland 1881 history, that the Chaney's told their ancestors were from France, and they could trace them back to French Royality. They gave the name but I don't have
it handy. I would like to know if these Chaney's had any roots in Anne Arundel County. If you ever get the chance to read the Highland Co.Ohio History, do
yourself a favor and don't pass it up. Bye
