My GGGgrandfather Charles EAST was a seaman on the vessel 'State of Maine' that arrived in Liverpool England in July 1852. The ship was registered in Portland and the shipping news of the time describe the 'State of Maine' as having departed from either New Orleans or Boutelle, the papers are a bit confusing.
What I would like to know, if anybody can help, if there is, or used to be, such a place or port named Boutelle or similar in Maine. Google Earth was not able to help.
If anybody can direct me to an illustration or painting of the 'State of Maine' I would be very greatful.
My GGG Grandfather got around a bit, after his trip across the Atlantic, he voyaged to Calcutta and back to London and then from England to Australia where he jumped ship and deserted in 1853 during the great Victorian gold rush.
Thanks in advance
