Hello,

I have a 2xgr. grandfather of British ancestry who I believe was born in Calais, Maine around 1842 and baptized in that area. I do not know what church the family belonged to (I just know he wasn't Catholic at that time). Does anyone know of a good starting point in order to attempt to request a record from that time period??? Would old church records be sent to some sort of state archives or would the protestant churches keep those records if they are still open today? Thank you for any reply?
