Did Daniel Austin, b. 31 Jan 1801, Buckfield, ME, d. 29 Jan 1868, Buckfield have two
wives?

Daniel said to be son of Ebenezer & Mehitable Austin, A History of Buckfield, Oxford
County, Maine, publ 1915, preface dated 1902. This source, based on Buckfield records,
one author being the Oxford County Clerk, says, p. 719, that Daniel & Vesta (___),Austin
had 10 ch., beginning 06 Nov 1831, incl sons, Alonzo, Greenville, and
Marcellus.

Other sources say that Daniel m. Prudence Decoster, & had either 5 or 11 ch., incl sons,
Alonzo, Greenville, and Marcellus. Daniel & Prudence were enumerated in Buckfield on
09 June 1860 and had at that time 5 sons, incl Elonzo, Greenville, and Marcellus.
Prudence is enumerated again on 24 Jun 1870 in Buckfield, a widow, living with 3 sons,
incl Alonzo & Marcellus.

Prudence survived Daniel, thay are both buried in East Buckfield Cemetery with
Ebenezer and Mehitable. Also buried there is a Mary Austin who died 27 Nov 1874. Her
relationship with the other Austins is not stated.

Although Austins appear on this page (719) and, at least on pages 408 & 417, the Austin
surname is not in the index and a half-hour surf did not reveal to me a marriage of
Daniel & Vesta or Daniel & Prudence.
