The book was written so long ago (nearly 30 years), I wondered if anyone might still be around who was part of the production.

Do you know how to get in touch with her?

William D Romanski
Rhode Island
In Linwood H Lowden's "Ballstown West" history of Whitefield, Maine, he mentioned the Balltown Treasurer's Book. He said that Priscilla Bond of Jefferson "laboriously copied, typed, and indexed the original volume." So where is there a copy? How can I get a copy? Can someone at least check the index for me?

I'd appreciate any information.

William D Romanski
Rhode Island
looking for the parents and families of Charles H Bartlett and Mary Emma Bailey (c1870) who were married in Pittston, ME 15 Mar 1877. They had a son Sanford S Bartlett who was born in 1888 in Newcastle, Maine. He married Ida M Delano (b.1893). I think that they lived their whole lives in Maine. Both being born there. I know of a couple from Rhode Island that have the exact same names, but I do not think they are the same people. Any information would be appreciated very much thank you

I'm hoping to find some information on my 4x great grandfather's early life. He was, theoretically, born in Wiscasset, Lincoln, Maine about 1802 to John Getchell Nason and Mercy Dickinson. He married Sarah Richardson there, and the date I have is 4 Nov 1828. I'm hoping to find some documentation of either of these events. If someone could help me out, I'd very much appreciate it!

Thank you!

I have those records you provided - and a couple more.

The Alice Earley married to Joe Canfield in 1912 was my grandfather's sister. The Earley family is just as confusing/misleading/conflicting as the Canfields.

I am hoping that maybe one of the Dodge descendants may know some tidbits of information as to why May was in Newcastle Maine at all. I only found her b/c another brother, James Nicholas Canfield, listed her as his emergency contact on his WWI draft registration. from there, I backtracked.

thank you - i had not seen the "second" page of the marriage record. this almost raises more questions (LOL)

May Canfield is listed as "adopted daughter" in the 1900 census with the Dodge family....i can't find a birth record for her.....there are other children born to this couple - also farmed out to other homes in 1900 - brother Joe with Murphy family in Norwood, Mass. Still have not found Mr/Mrs Canfield in censuses or death records. Marriage record in Boston in 1880 lists both born in Ireland.

Welcome to the world of the Boston Irish....

Can anyone provide any information on the May Canfield, born 1881 Massachusetts, adopted by Enoch Dodge, then married to his son Frank. I'm trying to link her to the Canfield family from Charlestown, MA. I think John Canfield married Julia Murphy in Boston June 1880 and had about 5 children over the next decade. I cannot find a death or remarriage for either John or Julia, but also cannot find them in censuses.

Willam's and Elizabeth's children were all born in Whitefield and from what I can find William was also born there. I have him dying possibly 1891.
Thank you I'd appreciate any help on this!

As the origional post states: The 1860 Federal Mortality Schedule shows he died in July 1859. Originally I thought that the cause of death had been "suicide by poison" though now I am wondering if it says "suicide in prison" its tough to tell with the handwriting. Either way it'd be interesting to discover what the situation may have been.
Leicht / Light in Waldoboro

Hi there! Maybe someone can help me get past my brick wall!

I am a descendant of Civil War Major Harvey Everett Light who was born 1834 in Fishkill, Dutchess County, New York. Harvey's father was James Light and James' father was Wolsey Light sometimes spelled Woolsey Light. Woolsey was born in Dutchess County 7 July 1762 and that's where it ends for me. I know little else.

Anything else I do know comes from the book Light Genealogy of America where a letter from my GGG grandfather Major Harvey Everett Light talks of the Palatinate origin of his branch of Lights and how our ancestor came from Germany by way of England and settled in Maine at least for a time:

"In the year 1892 and early pare of 1893 I
followed matters up quite closely as to the antecedent
condition of the Light families, and located large
numbers in most of the states, in some much more
numerous than in others, and quite a variety of con-
dition derived; but in Maine, where the origin is de-
veloped, they are of German descent. A family in
Maine that represented they were of English extrac-
tion, as I followed the correspondence I finally
located a German Bible with family record within.

The family, which had made its circuit around through England and into the State of Maine, also on my father's side, I finally obtained the data as to his antecedents by transcript from a German Bible, leaving no doubt in my mind that they were originally of German descent; my great-grandfather marrying an English woman for his second wife, thus leaving my father of German-English extraction, and he in turn married a Holland woman, my mother. I have not been able to obtain the name of my great-grandfather or his immediate location. As to the family, his children were scattered, and my father moving from the country
while we were young and dying in middle life, those conditions have not permitted my tracing back to my grandfather. The particular data as to brothers and sisters, and antecedents is:

My grandfather, Wolsey Light,
b. July 7, 1762,
d. Apr. 11, 1828
aged 65 yr. 9 mo. 4 days
By trade a wheel and millright. In his later life lived on a farm near Shenandoah, 17 miles from Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
His first wife's name unknown."

My research has led me to believe that my Lights could have been at Waldoboro where a large number of Palatinate Germans settled after coming through England. Interestingly enough there was a Peter Leicht/Light, George Leicht/Light, and a John Leicht/Light at Waldoboro and I've done a little research on those people. I've found a great deal of information on these Leichts:

Johann Georg Leicht (son of Peter Leicht and Anna Barbara Ansel) was born 28 Oct 1713 in Oschelbronn, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany, and died 1766 in Waldoboro, Lincoln, Maine.
Johann Georg Leicht, b. 28 Aug 1743, Oschelbronn, Baden, Germany, d. 03 Oct 1786, Waldoboro, Lincoln, Maine.
Peter Leicht, b. 05 Feb 1751, Oschelbronn, Baden, Germany, d. 1837, Waldoboro, Lincoln, Maine.

**my Wolsey Light: b. 7 Jul 1762, Dutchess Co., New York

All I can think is that my Wolsey must be related to these men but I can find no proof. I would love to hear from anyone with any information or leads. Please email sip217@gmail.com.

Thank you,
Crystal

They had a daughter Catherine, born about 1815, died 7 Aug 1859 in Portsmouth NH. She married Simon Huckins Mills. Simon and Catherine had a daughter, Harriet, my 3 gr grandmother, Clarrisa and a son John.

I was getting confused on the Johns as well - there seemed to have been a father/son and maybe one more in Waldoboro about the same time. Would anyone know anything about mine?
Thanks in advance

Thanks for checking but this isn't the Gertrude Dunton I'm looking for. I believe she died before 1940 but I know she had only one child, a son named Walter. He was an infant in the 1900 census and I never found him again.

I can't help you with the cemeteries. The Alna cemetery I have visited is on Findagrave.
Manning Patterson had a wife named Mary Jane Lowell before he married Mary Trask. Mary Lowell died 3 Feb. 1850, at Alna. She is the mother of Andrew Lowell Patterson. There were many Lowells at Alna.

Seeking parents of Henry Simmons, born Maine ca. 1808. He married Sarah Poland in 1836 and resided in Friendship, Knox county. Purported to be son of Isaac Simmons and Elizabeth Thompson, who in 1810 were living in Lincoln County. Any proof or other parental evidence would be appreciated. Thanks.
I know this is years late but it might help someone now...

I'm just getting into my mother's father's side of the family tree research. James/Christian Hunter > Ebenezer/Sarah Chase > John/Sally Hodgdon > George W/Susan Hannah Costello > Ernest S or T/Ina B Blair > Keith E or E Keith/Beatrice M Young > Cynthia Ina Savage/Allen C Downs <<--- my parents.

I'm planning on a trip to Woolwich & Bath for more info. Love more info if anyone has more to add. Esp on Ebenezer's children and John's too.

Ebenezer Savage (1753 Nequesset, ME - 9 Aug 1840 Woolwich, ME) married Sarah Chase (1760 Edgecomb, ME - 28 May 1814 Woolwich, ME) on 26 Dec 1776 in Edgecomb, ME.

Sarah's parents info is what I currently have:
John Chase Jr (7 Dec 1730 NH - 5 Oct 1787 ME)
Rachel Gove (7 Dec 1733 NH - 13 Jul 1809 ME)

I didn't write it down on where they died so I'm assuming they died in Maine and I think they are buried in Maine too.
The website I found this redid their site and I can't access what I did find.

Feel free in emailing me at bcdowns3@gmail.com
Thanks!

I do not have any additional information for you, but I am looking for the same thing. I have an old pedigree from my grandfathers diary saying that Mary Jane (Fossett) Carter parents are John Carter and Betsey Richards, but I cannot find a document to make the connection, so that would be your Nancy's sister. I did find a death certificate for Mary Jane stating her father was John Carter, but the death certificate lists her mother as Betsey Murphy, something strange there. I will let you know if I run into anything however.

Bradbury Boggs of Warren ME: suicide 1859

Bradbury Boggs of Warren ME (1812-1859) m.Margaret "Ann" Fuller of Appleton ME(1826-1894) had 7 children.

The 1850 Federal census shows Bradbury living in Warren, Lincoln Co. ME alone with his mother Mary. While Margaret Boggs is found living with her family in Appleton, Waldo Co. ME with their first child Oliver who was born that year.

The 1860 US Federal Mortality schedule for Warren ME shows that Bradbury died in July 1959, cause: "suicide by poison".

I am hoping to find any possible information on why the family lived apart and why Bradbury committed suicide at 47. I cannot seem to locate any newspaper archives for that time. If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate that help.
