Hello Malachi,
Well I don't have much on your great grandparents John and Josephine (except that John does appear in the 1880 NEW SWEDEN, MAINE census) I don't know why the other respondent missed them when they did your census research. Anyway, he is there with his father Johan Gustaf (the name Johan doesn't appear on the census just Gustaf - I found the Johan in a couple of other sources), his mother Johanna Kristi ( the Kristi part also came from other sources), his brother Carl (or Karl David) as it appears in the immigration records), his sister Hanna Elisabeth. (again the Elizabeth part is NOT on the census. (ALL of these people were born in Sweden) and his youngest brother Josef who was born in MAINE.
John JR ( or Johan Gustaf, as he was named after his father)and his brother Josef and sister Hanna may have left New Sweden as there is no record of them dying in or being buried in a New Sweden cemetery. (of course Hanna may have married and is buried under her husbands name and I just haven't found that link yet.)
However, John's father, mother and older brother Carl/Karl are all buried in the New Sweden cemetery. Carl actually died just a couple of months before his father. Carl died on 4/18/1904, and the father, Johan Gustaf died less than two months later on 6/10/1904. His mother Johanna died 8 years later on 1/29/1912 at the age of 79.
If you are interested, I may have a photo of their grave stone that I could email to you. (That is if they do have a gravestone, there are several persons buried in old cemeteries that do not have markers) This past summer I took photographs of every gravestone in all of the New Sweden and Westmanland cemeteries, so if they had a stone I probably have a picture. Let me know if you'd like to see it. I realize this information is mostly one generation back from what you were requesting, but I do hope you have found it helpful.
I am working on a multi year project compiling information on ALL OF THE SWEDISH EMIGRANTS that ever came to the NEW SWEDEN, MAINE area, any additional information on your family that you would like to share with me would be greatly appreciated. I will in turn continue to pass on whatever additional information I find that may be of interest to you.

Sincerely,
Lynn Johnson

John Uppling, Aroostok, married to Josephine Marquis (Canadian born, orphan),
he went to Kentucky in 1907 or 08, was killed in Louisville
in a lumber factory. Was grusomely injured when a board
went loose and nearly cut him in two. He lived for 2 or 3 days, but then passed on.

The family left and went on to Albany, Indiana where many of
the decendents still reside in Indiana and Illinois.
My father, John Gustave, next to the youngest in age, moved many times until he settled in the Hill Country of Texas around 1948.
