Can anyone out there help? The DAR applicant is now deceased and provided NO SOURCE/PROOF.

The “Memoirs of George W. Armstrong” [OCLC 53887223] at top of this post has Andrew d in LA, this may have been possible if he were staying with the Susan that I am thinking was his daughter.

O.K., all you descendants of these folks --- PLEASE come forward and let's spiff up this information with ACCURATE and well-documented PROOF.

HOPEFUL of some BITES!
Sally Randol-Hardy

Could someone please help me find more information on Wesley Kilgore prior to 1900? I am at a dead-end and it's disappointing to end my search on him so soon. I found him on 1900 census with wife Laura and family in Police Jury Ward 3, Union Parish, LA. He later married a "Mittie/Mattie Henry". Both of these are my great-grandparents.

Thanks for any help you can offer.
I live in Farmerville currently but I grew up in Marion. I absolutely love the Hopkins house and I always drive up the driveway when I pass through! It is not in excellent condition but it is still standing and strong. The current owners have installed a metal roof but that appears to be the extent of any current renovations. The grounds are getting a bit shaggy, too. The brickwork and masonry are all still present. It is just a remarkably sturdy structure. My grandmother and I just recently went to Concord cemetery and visited the graves of Rev. Elias George and his family. Rev. George was the original owner and the fellow who purchased the master carpenter slave for $3000 dollars to build the home. Quite a sum for the purchase of a slave in those days. Reverend George was said to have been a kind and jovial man, good to his slaves, seeing to all their needs and having them attend nightly prayer meetings. Let me know if you would like pictures of the home. I recently snapped a few because I love the architecture and I am building a new home (not nearly a grand, though!)

Not sure of that either. Most of the Dawkins from the early years were members of the Springhill Baptist Church near Oakland, Louisiana. It is approx. 12 miles north of Farmerville, LA. near the Louisiana and Arkansas border. There is an African American and White cemetery next to the church. The church was an intergrated congregation when it was originally founded circa 1865.

Several Dawkins are buried there. There is only one Bilberry (George Bilberry), one Nelson (Jeremiah Nelson) and there are'nt any Ellis buried in this cemetery.

The majority of the Ellis are buried at the Meridian Baptist church cemetery. They also have an African American and White Cemetery at this church. It also was originally an integrated congregation when it was founded circa 1854.
Most of the Bilberrys and Bensons are buried at the Sweet Lilly Primitive Baptist Church. All of these churches are within 8-10 miles of each other.

Which made Etta (Nelson) Ellis's son (Rufus Ellis)and Levonia (Nelson) Wyatt's daugher (Irma Gospel) first cousins. So, Rufus Ellis and Agustas (Roe) Ellis' (12 children) are Irma Gospel's second cousins. Irma Gospel's second cousins range from the ages of (63 - 47). They resides in Arkansas, Tennessee, Illinois, Missouri and Texas. I connected with a set of Calhoun that resides in CA that are from the branch of Jordan Branch Nelson. Jordan Branch Nelson migrated to Texas and is buried there. Is Elsey B. Bilberry's descendants and Hannah and Georgia Bilberry's decendants connected to each other? Also, Irma Gospel's has a third cousin Marchel Hill in Wisconsin. This is Mattie Nelson' Great Great Granddaughter. Also, Irma Gospel's has a cousin name Barbara Lawrence in Missouri, she is connected to Hannah (Bilberry) and Branch Nelson. Do you know the names of Lucinda's parents and the names of her siblings?

I do know of one lady that lives in Monroe, LA that is a descendant of Branch and Hannah Nelson. Her name is Irma Gospel. She is 86 years old and lives in Monroe, LA. She is Hannah and Branch's grand daughter. Irma's mother was Levonia Nelson-Wyatt.Levonia was Hannah and Branch's daughter.
There are some descendants that live in Houston, Texas but I never have been able to get a response from them.

The Morgans are connected with the Bilberry's through Georgia Bilberry-Ellis. Georgia's mother Lucinda was lived with York Morgan she was born around 1835 or 1845. Slaves marriages were not recognized by the White slavemaster. Lucinda had at least two children by the White slave master by the name of Elsey B. Bilberry. Hannah and Georgia were sired by him with Lucinda. Elsey also had a son that was sired by another slave woman. The child's name was Jordan Ellis Billberry. Jordan was born in Union Parish of Louisiana but moved to Chidestar, Arkansas in Ouachita County around 1900. I do not know the city in Mississippi that Lucinda was born.
1900 Obituary of Captain Henry E. Moseley of Moseley's Bluff on Bayou d'Arbonne, Union Parish Louisiana

From the "Gazette", a newspaper published in Farmerville, Union Parish Louisiana
Issue of 11 July 1900, page 3
==================================================================================
==================================================================================
NOTE: Captain Henry E. Moseley (9 June 1840 - 9 July 1900) was born in South Carolina.
He arrived in Union Parish in the latter 1860s. He was married to Frances Anna ?
(1841 - 8 May 1875). Henry farmed south of Farmerville in Ward 5 near Bayou d'Arbonne
in 1870. He owned property on a high bluff along the bayou, and he opened and operated a
store there. The bluff soon became known as Moseley's Bluff, with a post office opening
there on 17 March 1875. Moseley served as postmaster from 1886 until his death in 1900.
After Fannie's death in 1875, he remarried to Louisa (c1847 - after 1900).

Moseley was known as "Captain", but it is not known if he earned this rank by service
in the Confederate Army or as a steamboat captain.
==================================================================================
==================================================================================

Capt. H. E. Moseley, of Moseley's Bluff, this parish, died Monday at the hospital in
Shreveport. His wfie and son were at his bedside when he breathed his last. For the
past several months Capt. Moseley has been in bad health, and a few weeks ago he was
carried to the hospital where it was hoped medical treatment might restore his
health, but the Death Angel had a summons for him and he had to respond.

For several hears Capt. Moseley conducted a large and successful mercantile
business at Moseley's Bluff, but aboutg 10 years ago financial reverses overtook
him, from which he was never able to recover. In his younger days he was active
and energetic, and a fine business man.

At the time of his death he was about 60 years old. His remains were brought
home Tuesday for interment.
I have been trying to info on William C Kilgore. The 1900 Census states he was in living in Louisiana with his wife Ida Mae Dempsey and there children. The 1910 puts him in Arkansas. He was born between 1863-1870 is my guess. He states that he & both parents were born in Tennesse. I can find no proof of that though. He was married around 1896 location unknown. I am assuming he died between 1914-1920. I found his wife and children in Arkansas 1920 Census, shows her as widow and their last child was born in 1913. That is how I figured his possible death year. Any thread at all would sure be appreciated. I found May in th 1930's Census in Arkansas as well. She died there in 1939. her youngest child was John D. Kilgore. Thank You!

Hello,

Rugg's Bluff is a small community found south/southwest of Ruston, LA, where the present college is Louisiana Polytechnic University or commonly as Louisiana Tech is located.
I was contacted about 4 years ago by a Rugg from there to follow up by tracing their ancestors. This Union Parish Rugg family migrated from Solomon Rugg in Lancaster, MA to Southington, Connecticut to South Carolina to Alabama crossing Mississippi and finally stopping in Union Parish. If I remember correctly, Solomon Rugg Sr is a great grandson or great great grandson of John Rugg Junior, son of John Rugge who owned tracts of land(s) in Barbadoes before leaving Barbadoes for Massachusetts to live and marry his first wife Martha Prescott. Her Father founded the town of Lancaster, MA.

Jean
A Rugg descendant from Daniel Rugg (#9)
I was reading entries about the Edgewood Plantation and the evident marvelous renovation that it has undergone.

It immediately turned me to thinking about my own ancestral home in Union Parish.

Does anybody know what is happening to the old Hopkins House in Marion?
My forebears, the Powell family, were born in this home.

My cousin, Alice F. Farrar, the granddaugher of Mary Alice Hopkins (daughter of Alice Ione Powell Hopkins) was living there and kept the place up when I first visited Marion and I stayed with her for several days.

Then she married, left and rented it out.

Three or four years ago I was there in Ruston visiting Alice and we went out to Marion and visited the tenants ago and the place wasn't being terribly well cared for.

Recently Alice passed away and now I am worried.

Please tell me anything that you folks in the Marion area are able to share.

For those who knew or knew of Ellis (E.T.) Powell, he was my great uncle.

Friendly Regards,
TED STORM

Hello, we must be 4th or 5th cousins...
YOS was my GGGgrandfather as well, thru Lousianna Victoria & Wm Lane Johnson. If you please, check out my tree at http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/43236046/family?cfpid=1263541...

For parent of John KEY b NC and Martha [Patsy] DAVIS: I show father as John Key (b 1746 in Moore NC), but no citations or references, sorry. NOTE: Patsy was married to John KEY, but the father was (supposedly) John KEYS (ending in an "s").

Do you have any parentage info on YOS Webster? I recently found YOS father listed as William WEBSTER & mother Elisabeth B FOSTER, but again with no citations.
