Debbie,

To my knowledge, there is no single list of families that moved to what is now Union Parish with Matthew Wood in 1837. I wouldn't imagine anyone will ever find an accurate list, unless an old letter or diary written at the time unexpectedly appears in the future.

To prove the names of some who came with Colonel Wood, I studied the Lowndes County deeds in December 1836-January 1837 and then the records of the Ouachita Land Office in February-March 1837. Here are those that I can document moved with Wood between January and February, 1837:

John Taylor
David Ward
William Ham
Daniel Payne
James H. Seale

I suspect that several others also moved at the same time (Josiah Deanes, for instance), but I can't prove this for certain at this time.

Thanks,

Tim
