Classification: Cemetery
Meridian Cemetery has a cemetery that is mixed, black and white. The older section, across the road from the church, has both blacks and whites buried there. The majority of the graves in there are black. The few whites are on the end that is to the right as you are entering the gate, (I think right would be to the west.)

It is a very old cemetery and a few of the graves in it date back to the mid and early 1800s. According to my dad, whose grandfather and mother are two of the whites buried there, when the cemetery was started it was not uncommon for blacks and whites to share every day necessities. He also knew several of the black families buried there.

Good luck,
