Surnames: DeCamp
My line is as follows:

William DeCamp (b.abt. 1818, VA -

d.bef. 1860, LA or MS)
m.(?)
JoAnna (JoHanna) Bellew (Ballew)

(b.abt. 1823 - d. abt. 1918)

William DeCamp is shown on the 1850 Census

household:

Roustoutl, James - Labourer (age 27)
Balew, Ann (age 27)

I have not found William on the following

MS - 1860, 1870, 1880
AL - 1860, 1870

Taking William DeCamp born 1818, VA ...
there are TWO (2) DeCamp families ...

DeCamps, Jacob - Brooke Co., VA, p. 82
to 10 yrs - 2 Male
26 to 45 - 1 Male
10 to 16 - 2 Female
26 to 45 - 1 Female

NOTE: In 1863, Brooke Co., VA becomes
Brooke Co., WV ... Brooke Co. is on the
Ohio River and is across from OH ...

I found the following Will --

History of Brooke County by Nancy Lee Caldwell
1975 - Chapter 20, p. 129 -

"Brooke County had its share of early rivermen:
... the DeCamps (lists names of other families)
... who made numerous trips to New Orleans."

My thinking is that it is POSSIBLE that
Jacob is the father of William as well as
Thomas Jefferson and Mary Ann (Burt) ...

Why -- 1850 Census shows Williams is
a woodcutter in Tensas Parish (just down
from Vicksburg) on the Mississippi River ... IF Capt. Thomas
DeCamp was his brother (or other family
member) he could be engaged in cutting word
for the family's steamboat "Neptune"

It seems the DeCamp(s) family was known as
being rivermen ...

ANY HELP on this appreciated ...

Thanks ... Lynna Kay
