My grandmother, Estella (Stella) Ruben, born July 9, 1905 (or 1906) in Elton, Louisiana. Her father was Gabriel (Gabe) Ruben, but her mother is unknown. Family lore has it that Estella's mother died shortly after she was born and Estella did not know her mother's name. Her mother had other children, that we not for Gabriel. After the mother's death the other children were sent off to Mowata and Estella never saw them again. In the late early 70s before Estella's death in 1974, she went to Mowata, Louisiana in a last ditch attempt to try to connect with her missing sibling. However, she was unsuccessful in this quest.

Estella died in Ville Platte, La.
