Hope this helps.

1930 census shows Camille’s Terrebonne’s age as 25 and Enide’s as 26. They lived in Harvey, La and he was a foreman at a canning plant. I think Camille was a Junior – see below)

1920 census shows a Camille at age 16 living with his parents Camille and Noncia (I think) in Harvey, La with numerous brothers and sisters (Oneil, Julius, Camille, Julia, Irma, Izora, Lee)

WWI draft card shows a Camille Etienne Terrebonne (this would be the dad) with a wife named Noncia with a birthday of December 19. 1874. At that time this Camille was a watchman for Swift & Co (the writing can be hard to decipher so the company name may not be exactly right)

Various family trees show in Ancestry.com show the above info as I interpreted it. They show Camille (1904 birth) with Camille as the dad and Noncia (shown as Nancy Anoncia Freitag) as the mom.

If your Camille is a Junior, then all this info should be correct. If anything clicks with something your mom might have said, let me know. If I find more, I will let you know.

Sorry, I wasn't looking on the site when I referred you earlier, and I wrote the wrong thing, after going to the site now, to be specific.....

www.sos.louisiana.gov
click on "Archives"
click on "Research Library"
click on "Vital Records"
click on "Louisiana Deaths"
on the right hand side, find & click on "Advanced Search"

Realize that in Louisiana Statewide Civil Deaths did not begin until 1918, and the first few years it took many rural areas such as Jefferson Davis Parish to get on the bandwagon. That is...if your ancestor even died here in the state of Louisiana.

Thank you, Jay, for your suggestion for me to find a death record on my ancestor, Charles E. Dill. However, that government website didn't work for me. There was no option to choose called "vital statistics. I played around with the site, but nothing worked.

I'll keep hoping something better shows up.

Grateful for your kindness,
~ Barbara

if he died after 1918 there is a state wide death index at our Secretary of State website:

www.sos.louisiana.gov - go to vital statistics and check there

Does anyone know the names of the plantations in Louisiana? I have a newpaper article dated 1901 stating that Charles Dill with his family, moved from Butler County, Ohio, to Louisiana to work for a Zwick's Plantation.

I cannot find any information on this plantation or this last name of Zwick.

This is the last information I have on Charles Dill. He just sort of disappeared. He and his wife, Jennie, had a son born to them in 1903 in Welsh, Jefferson County or Parish, Louisiana. Jennie and the kids were back in Butler County, Ohio, by the 1910 census.

Where could I find out if Charles died in Louisiana, and where?

Thank you,
Barbara (Dill) Noble

I know they started tearing down the camp around 1947. There was a hospital there for some time afterwards.
I doubt the adddress was for the camp, maybe for the hospital?
Anyway, good luck with your search.
Dave

Hi Dave,
My husband was adopted in New Orleans in 1954. The address given for his birth mother was in on Jefferson Hwy. Where the Jefferson Industrial Park is located now.

We thought that possibly the address given was maybe that of the old Camp Plauche. We weren't able to find out the actual address of Camp Plauche.

My husband's birth mother's name was Rebecca Clark and he was named Floyd Clark at birth. He apparently had 2 or 3 other siblings also named Clark. So we were also trying to locate any one who lived in Camp Plauche who may have known either his birth mother or siblings.

Thanks for contacting us!
Marie and Wendel Hall

Zeringue, Macarty/McCarty

Looking for information on Azor Raymond Zeringue and his wife Adelaide McCarty (Macarty). I have Adelaide's will and succession papers and she lived in what we now know is Carrollton, but at the time was considered Jefferson Parish. They had three children that I know of: Felicite Azor Zeringue, born about 1825; Adolph Raymond Zeringue, born about 1823; and Michel Raymond Zeringue. Adelaide's will, dated 1845, says she was a widow. I would love to correspond with anyone who may be able to help with this family. I think Adelaide may be part of the prominent Macarty family from New Orleans, but I cannot prove it. Any info on Azor Raymond Zeringue would be helpful. Please contact me directly at juliech@cox.net. Thank you.

Hoeyville Plantation and Village/Town of Hoeyville

Trying to find the historical location of Hoeyville. I have seen descriptions suggesting it was 9 miles from New Orleans between Lake Pont and the Mississippi but beyond that I cannot seem to locate it. References are made to this locale from about 1840 to the perhaps the early 1900s and may not exist any longer.

I believe it may have been created or named after John Hoey who owned a brickyard in the Carrollton area (Hoey's Basin) of New Orleans. He also owned a saddle and harness factory and a wheelbarrow factory.

It is possible that Hoeyville and Hoey's Basin are one and the same. It might also be possible that the Hoeyville Plantation was located there. I hope someone can point me to some historical map that might help me answer these questions.

Thanks..........Arthur

I received the book (Historic Jefferson Parish From Shore to Shore) today and have been browsing through it. p.98 has a map showing a plot called "Hoestown" [sic] and another noted "J. Hoes." From "Norman's Chart of Lower Mississippi" 1858

In order, Greenville, Carrollton, New Carrolton, J. Hoes [sic], E. Preston, W. Walker.....I assume this is East to West. Carrollton and New Carrollton are separated by the Carrollton & Lake Railroad. Each of the parcels extend from the Mississippi to Hoestown to the north.

Hoestown appears to be a triangular parcel with the north boundary of Metairie Road (parallelling Bayou St. John), to the south are the properties listed above, west boundary is a point of the trianglar parcel. To the east, it is not clear if the parcel ends at the Carrollton & Lake Railroad or if it extends further, perhaps beyond Carrollton.

Thanks for your help..........this clears up many of my questions.

Regards...........Arthur

Dorothy,

Thanks, yes, I saw this and sent a note to the NOPL last week. It turns out they, NOPL, only maintain the oral histories on tape and not the transcribed versions (seems odd). I was referred by NOPL to Friends of the Cabildo.
I sent an email to Kaitlin at Friends of the Cabildo but have not heard back yet. I remain hopeful.

Regards..............Arthur
For those who might happen upon this thread, I received the following response to an inquiry at Tulane University Library.

---------------------
Our John Hoey Papers (Manuscripts Collection 780) includes 586 unbound manuscripts, including receipts, deeds, litigations, slave information, correspondence, genealogical information, and a few newspaper clippings. The documents cover the years 1839-1947. Also included are eleven bound volumes of account books, check books, accounts by Hoeyville Plantation, general ledgers, accounts of worker hours, a Hoey Brickworks account book, a real estate transaction ledger, and records of loans and mortgages of the Agricultural Banks of Mississippi.
------------

This note from the library makes me want to make a special trip to New Orleans to take a look.

Regards........Arthur
