My gggrandfather was A.A. (Archilous Achilles)Whatley [10 Mar 1855 - 10 Dec 1941] and his first wife, Sarah Sally Moffett[11 Feb 1870-13 May 1889]. They are both buried in the Whatley/Lacroix cemetery in LaSalle Parish near Little River.
GGGranddad Arch was the older brother of Martha Lucy who married a Lacroix and of Phineas Whatley. His mother was Rebecca Gray (1833-?) . We had been told Arch's father was Jesse Mercer Whatley [1809-?], however, in the 1880 Catahoula census, a Phin(eas) Whatley is shown as the husband of Rebecca and the father of Arch. Can someone help me out here on just what is the correct name/person?
