Peggy, you are on the right track. Unfortunately A E Douglas III just passed away a few months ago and he was buried near his grandmother and father in DeQuincy, LA. He has 2 children and I have forwarded your post to them. If you can reply with your email address I will forward that to them as well.

Historical records for Caldwell Parish, LA would be in the Clerk of Court's office located in the parish courthouse in Columbia, LA. Marriage records, land transactions etc. should be there. Any U.S. Government land either homesteaded or purchased can be found in the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and can be accessed via their website (free) and from there you can print out officical land transaction documents or send for official copies for a fee. You can search the website by state and parish for Louisiana and counties for other states.

Are you related to any Pattons/Pattens from Caldwell or Catahoula parish Louisiana. Boone Cross's son George Cross was a witness on my great grandparents Milly Patton & Marco Wooten's marriage certificate. Simon Cross, George Cross's brother had a son also named Boone Cross. The younger Boone Cross married my great grandmother's (grandmother lineage) sister Addie Pemberton. I'm searching for the family of Milly Patton's father Joseph Patton. In 1870 the Cross (misspelled Crop) family lived a few houses down from the Pattons (Joseph (widow), Milly, (daughter) and James (son). At some point Addie and Boone Cross moved to Elon, Ashley, Arkansas. Check Arkansas 1930 census.

My gg grandfather was Henrich Carl (Henry Charles) Wiggers and he married Anna Maria Ahlmann (twin to Anna Ahlmann) April 26 1839 in Columbia Caldwell Parish. The twins were from Denmark. Anna Maria worked for Henry Frellsen and they came on a ship together in 1836.
Wiggers (believed to be from Denmark) bought land from US Government in 1839 in Caldwell Parish close to Copenhagen. Wiggers ultimately moved to Franklin Parish around 1842.

Any information on where historical records are kept for Caldwell Parish would be appreciated.

Most folks, during the 19th Century, were buried on their own land, somewhere. You would need to look for land deeds and then try to find a wooden marker...which probably has disappeared.

I live by this cememtery! It is in Caldwell Parish close to the LaSalle parish line. Take 165 towards Olla, turn right onto Hwy 124 at Pearl and Sids, go about a mile and take a right onto Sandy Drive, this is the first right off Hwy 124. When you turn onto Sandy Drive you will cross railroad tracks, then take a right onto Oak Forest Cememtery Road. The road will be blacktop then it turns into gravel. Go to the end you will see it on the right.

My grandfather was named George Butler. He was born 1891 in Grayson, La to his mother Jane Harrold. If you look in the 1880 census you can see that the Harrold family lived very close to the Butler family. My grandmother told me the story about a white man who came to Girard selling fruit and one day he saw all of these light colored kids playing in the yard. So he walked up to the door and asked my grandmother for a glass of water and got into some small talk. Then he said he heard that a cousin of his lived in this area named George Butler. My grandmother didnt remember his name but he came back a few times more and he and my grandfather would sit out and talk for hours but she never heard their conversataion. I have a Aunt who has features of Nancy Butler. My grandfather did not talk about his family but he did mention the Cruses from Caldwell Parish. He worked at the Cruse sawmill for 17 years

Lordy, no! Not from the Samuel Houston branch anyhow. I had met Uncle Jessie several times, usually at the Old Bethel graveyard working, or reunion as they call it now. He was very old then.
He was not married, and played a fiddle when he was younger. My grandmother was not impressed with him, I overheard her comment once that he was lazy and would not work.
Who is your Dad and G'Father?

I know how you feel. Unidentified photos can be a little disappointing. I have Nancy, Jesse Jr, Marion and Sam. You ever hear of Jesse Jr having a son by a black woman? Evidently it was a well kept everybody knew but didnt talk about secret. My grandfather didnt even talk about it. He just told his wife his father was white and that was the end of it (as if she couldn't tell). His sister told my grandmother after he died that his father's name was Jesse Butler.

Leon

Leon, I have some photos, they are of Dr. Tom Butler's family and some are unidentified. The latter is probably of Dr Tom's family also, since it is from the same photo shop as his others.
Got a picture I wish I could identify as Jessie James since it looks pretty old. But that is just a hope. Of all my ancestors Jessie is the one I's most like to talk with.
My g'father was Samuel Houston Butler.
Thanks
Robert Butler
MountJuliet TN
butler.services@comcast.net

Hi Jo,
I am about to send my FTM efforts to ancestry.com too.
I have several photographs which seem to be of Dr. Tom Butler, and his family. Many are unidentified but bear the logo "Harper Photography" the same as Dr. Tom's does. Recently visited Robert Butler and Hedy in Jena, for the first time. They showed us some cemetaries we had not seen. My email is butler.services@comcast.net. Live in Mount Juliet, TN.
Thanks
Robert Butler

Do you know if John A Boyd came to Caldwell Parish from Amite or Pike counties in MS? If so, he could be related to Doll Boyd who married James Estess. The book, Gardens of Memories, is a list of most all the burials in Caldwell Parish up to the 1970's. The library in Columbia and the Probate Office have copies. Someone at the library might be willing to do a look up.

Belgium might make sense in that the family always claimed that side of the family was originally from Spain. I'll keep investigating.

Beth

I am reading your message thread posted October 11, 2011.

Which statement is incorrect? The first part or the last part?

I'm a little confused...

William Mitchell LaBaume is my 2nd great grandfather. Just not sure which Joseph de Labaume was his father. As I researched I found Joseph Baptista de La Baume as well as a Joseph de LaBaume.

I have a story of one of their fathers: Joseph De La Baume called "Footprints in a Pioneer Land" that some people believe to be our 4th great grandfather, but I'm not convinced. He was an historical figure in Texas history. In this Story, his Will says he was born in 1731 in Avignon, France, the first son of Jose Philipe, Count de la Baume.
He married Ana Maris Kentree in Louisiana in 1778- no children were born of this marriage.
Nacogdoches marriage records from 1824 notes he married Louise Cuturie around 1793 who had a small child at the time of their marriage named Valerio which he reared as his son and gave his name. He had three children with Louise Cuturie: Victoria, Joseph and Gertrude.

Is this son, the "Joseph" who married Babet Colon Lazare??? Two of their children were definitely identified as W. Mitchell born 1827 (my 2nd great grandfather) and Hypolite, born 1829.

This Story said there appeared to be one or perhaps two other Joseph Labaume's in Ouachita County and stated one of the Joseph's was the son of Valerio Labaume who is mentioned above.

My hope is that someone can shed some light on William Mitchell LaBaume's father and grandfather so we can complete our family tree.

Thank you.
Jane
His parents were Joseph Baptista de LaBaume and Maria del Carmen "Babette" Colomb dit Lazarre.
Jos. Baptist de LaBaumes parents were Joseph Phillip Comte de La Baume and Maria Isabella d'Alton

THIS IS INCORRECT --
Jean Joseph de la Baume was the son of Joseph Phillip Comte de la Baume and Maria Isabella d'Alton and married 2nd time to Marie L. Courtuier. Their descendants are my ancestors, victorina, gertrude, Joseph, Pedro and Valerie. Their son, Joseph married Marie Jeanne Grappe David. His brothers married her sisters. There were two men at Ft. Miro with similar names -- JOSEPH DE LA BAUME and Joseph LABAUME.

He was ny great-grandfather also. His daughter Annie Lula Doffitt Douglas was my grandmother. All I have is his mother born in Kentucky, his father and him born in Texas. I know the "white men" made Indians take a white mans name so I figure that may be why we can not locate much on him or his family. It is stated he was of the "Wachita Indian" tribe. When he died he was buried at Columbia Hill, but his headstone is missing and he is buried on the right side at the bottom of the hill with the blacks. They would not let him be buried on the left side, because he was not white.
