Is anyone searching the Welch/Welsh family in Calcasieu from 1850 onward.

I have Welch's that settled in San Augustine Co. Texas that might be related. My Jesse Wyatt had a daughter Sarah Ann Wyatt b. abt 1840 Ga that had Welch children on the 1870 San Augustine Co. census. He was supposed to be in the area of Orange Co., Tx around 1860-2 which borders Calcasieu. My great grandfather was William David Welch, b. abt 1859/60 Texas. He had a sister Mary Elizabeth who married Marion Bee Sanders.

Am thinking my Sarah Welch, was widowed by one of the males from this family.

1850 Calcasieu Parish Louisiana
Miles Welch 53
Mary Welch 40
Henry Welch 20
Fanny Welch 18
Emilie Welch 15 (Suzanne m.
I would like to know more about a club, not the hotel, called the St. Regis. It was owned by Francesca Premaux
(not sure about that spelling) who played piano and sang. She married Paul Parker, who tended bar. If anyone knows where in Lake Charles it was located I would appreciate it. Thank you.

The one we used to go to in LC was the Bambo Club with Fats Domino and Little Alfred among others. Right across the TX border in LA were many popular clubs: The Big Oaks and the Boogie Kings played on weekends, Lou Ann's who had Erma Thomas and other great stars, The showboat, Busters - 5 drinks for $1.00 but no band, Shady Rest, Circle Club, TX Pelican are just a few. Back then, the Boogie Kings were the big attraction and on Friday's, you could often catch a young girl from Pt. Arthur up on the stage by the name of Janis Joplin.

The club was located at 2801 E. Broad Street in 1957 according to the city directory. The previous city directory at the library was 1950, and it wasn't there then; and the next city directory was 1958 and it was not listed as in existance then. Hope this helps.
Anna

I'm waiting on a copy of my great(x2)grandmothers social security application atm. Just to verify that I do have the correct rousseau family. Assuming I'm on the right track then I don't know the fathers name but his mother would be Octavia (maiden name unknown)Bourgeois Rousseau. He's my great great grandmothers half brother. Their mother first married at age 13 and thier father drowned somehow, that much I do know. She also had a daughter named Lyda (pronounced Lejah) who married an Hebert and another son from her first marriage.

Do you know her parents names & if they were in the Calcasieu Parish area?

Beginning in 1938, Maude was instrumental in reindexing & refiling the records of Calcasieu Parish & it took over 2 2/1 years. There is a large article about it & there is a pic of the people, Maude included, however, the picture is pretty dark. I would be glad to mail it to you. You can email me directly at duwhit@aol.com & give me your address if you would like a copy.

Will be glad to look up any additional relatives for you.
I like to research soooo, I have spent this Saturday morning researching the Bourgeois & Rousseau families for you. I looked at the 1900 Census & noticed the parents names were listed at the bottom of the census page & on the next page listed their children, Ellen being one of them. I believe this is the family of Ellen - the census takers sometimes didn't know how to spell or they spelled the surnames like they sounded...so you will find misspellings happened a lot. Also, the name Rousseau could be spelled a lot of ways - Russo being one of many.

Edia was an assistant postmistress in Welsh, LA & when she married to Edward E. Becker, Jr. (June 1929) she resigned & they moved to Galveston, TX. Edia died the following year, May 1930, according to a newspaper article I found. (see attached articles-marriage & death)

Knappville was an area/community or district in or around Lake Charles, LA. It was mentioned in newspaper articles on early Lake Charles, much as Goosport (now north Lake Charles) was. Neither were ever incorporated area by those names, I think they were just known by the citizens as Knappville and Goosport. Knappville was not mentioned in the census as such and it was not a township as we don't have those. Our parish (Calcasieu Parish) is, and was, divided by numbered wards. It is not found in Louisiana on the placenames.com website either.
Thanks for your suggestions though. One never knows what hint might cause a break-through. I've asked the local historical library for the location of Knappville, but so far they have come up empty-handed.
I appreciate your help. Anna

I'm looking for the mother and father of Ellen Miller Rousseau (1892-1994). I have found one document that could belong to my family from the 1900 census but the last name was spelled Ruseaux.
http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1900usfedcen&a...
What I do know for sure is that Ellen's little sister was name Leah. Her mother had 2 children (lyda & ?) from her first marriage to a Bougeious but he drowned and she remarried a Rousseau. Her brother Orelio was in WW1 and they made fun of him cause he couldn't speak english and called Goshak.

Hello! I'm looking for any information on my great uncle Richard Elmer Nelson. aka Pete. The last known place I know he lived was in Lake Charles, LA in 1947 when my grandfather died. He was a merchant marine. Is there an obituary? I'd love to know what happened to him.

I am also a decendant of Larkin Thomas, through Bennett Thomas then Mildred Thomas.
I have a lot of old photos that I can't identify that are likely Thomas/Moss.
Wondered if anyone else has some old photos and maybe we could share.
There is also a book called Journey's end written about the Ryans. I have been trying to find a copy, the only one in the library they will not copy or allow it to be copied.
Pamela Fisher
