Hi,

I am trying to find out more information regarding my great x3 grandmother. I am getting different pieces of information and I am trying to put it all together. I have been told by a family member.

" the sweat or swet side come from nova scotia , that's where the arcadians were expelled for nova scotia by the king of england so they had to make there way down the east coast of america to get to louisianna, where arcadian became cajun, but her mother elizabeth burgess , i read a post on gencom , aand i need to look for it, that she was a orfen at 2years old, the catholic church gave her the name burgess, latin for free person, and she was adoptded by a black couple who could not have kids, when she was to marry sweats they had to buy her freedom just like a slave, she was full blood choctaw and had dark skin, i read this and i have some paper work about part of it, but i have to try and find the post from gencom i think it from someones bible"

I also found this information online that appears to be my great x3 grandmother also

Marriage Notes for Elizabeth Burgess and Leonard Covington Sweat:
Done by Dolores Wiley: The above bonds and letters were dated 12/22/1828 in St. Landry Ph. The wedding took place a monthe later, 1/24/1829. in Avoyelles Ph. as noted. On Jan. 24, 1829 in nearby Avoyelles Ph., Sweat married Elizabeth Burgess "of Avoy" (Avoyelles) The following records petaining to the marriage of Leonard Covington Sweat and Elizabeth Burgess are on file in the St. Landry Ph. Courthouse in Opelousas, Louisiana: written and it was there "Mr. Judge King you will pleaz to grant lisong to Covington Swet to Marry with Elizabeth burgeza a offent girl that I have rased from the age of three months of age a Dauten of my brother in law. I myself have the sole management of her both curator and parent. These few linz will sirtify that I gave consent this 22 day of December 1828. James Groves. Gideon his X mark, Swet, Isaac Ventioner." (James Groves appears to have written the letter and signed his name to it Isaac Ventioner, a brother in law to Leonard C. Sweat, evidently was quite literate and signed his name with a full flourish). "Know all men by these presents that Leonard Covinton Sweat, Gideon Sweat and Isaac Ventioner of the State of Louisiana and Parish of Saint Landry are held and bound unto Peter Dervigny Governor of the aforesaid State and to his Successors in office in the sum of five hundred dollard for the true and faithful payment whereof they hereby gind themselves, their heirs...administrators jointly and severally, firmly by these presents, sealed with their seals and dated at Opelousas this twenty second day of December Anno Domini "

I have tried to determine who of the brother in law and wife were but I cant seem to figure it out
