I have gathered quite a lot of information on John/Uel/Ewell and their descendents. I will be on vacation next week and I have to take my computer with the database to a shop to get it all off my old computer. I cannot access the information just now, but will be glad to share what I have with you when I get this done.

There was no Joel Richey, that is just a mistake by the census taker that particular year. His name was Uel, father of Ewell. It is in my Bible records.

I am hoping to find someone in Allen Parish (or nearby) who can help me with my grandparent's grave. I know that they are buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Oakdale, as stated by Sacred Heart Church itself. I have reason to believe that their graves are unmarked. I would like to have this confirmed. If someone is available to visit this cemetery (it isn't very big) to investigate for me, I would be very grateful. Their names are Leonard (Ernest) "Peg" Breaux and Thelma Eloise (nee Peters) Breaux. He was born in 1906; she was born in 1924. They died together in 1956.
Thank you,
Shawna
Grand Rapids, MI

Brothers sisters, anything older than 1752. I have sufficient information going forward in time.

This may not be the right family (the dates are off), but I have a lot of Allen history and may be able to match your request if I have more information about the particular Allen you are looking for. I'm not a genealogist or any other business person and this is not a solicitation, I'm just an Allen tracking my Allen lineage. Can you go further back than William and Elizabeth?

But George and Margaret were both born in England, correct?

Just a little background. There was a very large group of families in south east Texas starting from 1820. John and William are both common names in these families. Texarkana is due north of this area.

Was your John the only one in this country?

You know you often wonder how somebody came about to live hundreds or thousands of miles away from where they were raised. What lured them there? Now days with traveling so easy and people moving with their jobs, it is not unusual to land elsewhere. You go with the job opportunities. I also think families are not so tuned into staying around small towns where they grew up. I can see taking a job in same state but back in the late 1920-1930's, it was rare for people to migrate across two or three states.

Thank You So Much for the information. After I had posted my message, I started doing some calling and spoke with Mrs. Dixon who owns/operates Oakland Cem. She knew this family well, especially the daughter Fannie who had been a school teacher, and taught her and her sister and some of her kids. Told me that Travis had been killed by one of his bulls on his own farm, wife Jane was a fantastic school teacher as was daughter Fannie. Fannie got married late in life to somebody by last name of Newman..I have my notes here on this pile of papers. Do you live near Oakland Cem? I always wondered why he was not buried with the parents and other family members in Bladen County, until I found him in 1930 census report in Allen Parish, Louisiana. Couldn't believe what I was seeing. All the names fit, even his brother who lived with him. We have spent 40 yrs. looking for that family. I wished my Father was alive now so I could tell him we found the burial place of his biological Father.

Hi there,

My name is Judy McPherson. The late Hank Landreneaux was my half brother (same mother). His mother and my mother was Beatrice Nanette Strother (Landreneaux-Addis-Sale)

Beatrice died June 14, 2006 and Hank died in November of 2005. Beatrice had four children: Hank, Judy (me), Connie, and Terry. All three girls are still alive. One is in rural Houston area, one in rural Dallas area and one in Michigan (that would be me).

I understand there are a lot of Strothers in Oakdale. I wonder if this group (reunion group) is related to my family. I believe my mother and all her siblings (20 of them, I believe) are gone. Beatrice was the youngest.

I was not raised by Beatrice, so information that I have is based on what sister Terry (whom I was not raised with) has gathered.

I did find more info on their mother's side (Eunice). Her grandparents were Pierre and Effie Savant from Kinder and her mother was Eliza Savant. Do you have any additional information on the Bean side? I know there's a family burial plot in Jasper (Magnolia Springs) that features a plaque stating the Beans founded the church. Please let me know if you find anything beyond this information.
Thanks!

I too have been looking for information on Blue Eyes (Blueye, Blueeye, etc). My ggg-grandfather was Isaac J. Blue Eye, his son was Amos Blue Eye, he went to Oklahoma & enrolled himself & two of his 3 children (that i have verified) as Missippi Choctaw...his wife Celeste / Celestine didn't survive the trip. My great-grandma Ida Blue Eye was only 3 and her brother Adolphe was about 7. Other than a few small pieces of incomplete information I have been able to find next to nothing out about them. What happened to them, who they were descended from, etc. Talk about Elusive !

Anyone who has informatino on any of the Mississippi Choctaw / Choctaw Blue Eyes, any spelling please fill me in. I will happily share what little I have been able to verify. I have a bucketful of hunches and leads I'm trying to follow up on but not much is panning out. Unfortunately most of that branch of the family tree died young or disappeared entirely so there's no one left around who has any concrete information.

There a handful of Blue Eye's who are on the 1880 & 1900 Census from the same areas as Isaac's descendants but I have been unable to verify if they are related, or any additional source information for them.

My thanks in advance.

Oh, one last tidbit...Amos's mother was not Liney but a woman named Easter or Esther that it sounds like Isaac married after Liney (Liney was considerably older than Isaac). Her Choctaw name was Fil-e-ta-ho-na and Isaac's was Mon-tubbi. Easter had previously been married to a man named Baptiste, no English 1st name but Choctaw name is Hai-yak-et-ubbi. They had at least 1 child while married, Joseph Baptiste (MCR5132)...Amos's 1/2 brother. (MCR5133).

Celestine Fontenot

I'm looking for the family of Celestine Fontenot (1868-1945), Married Francois "Frank" Marcantel in Kinder, La. (abt. 1893) and is buried in Kinder-McRill Memorial Cemetery. She spoke very little English, mostly French. There is a rumor that her father owned a hotel in Oberlin in the mid-late 1800's, but only a rumor.

When the railroad came through Allen Parish, Louisiana the owner of the railroad offered land deals to people to settle the area. Free land and cheap land. This brought folks from Germany, Switzerland, and all over the states. The timber business also brought people into the area. Big sawmills in the area employed many people. This caused business to grow. This brought in more doctors, lawyers, and School Teachers.
There is also another reason why your relatives might have moved to Louisiana. They might have followed other relatives to Louisiana. Just north of Allen Parish , there is the parish of Rapides. Here lives many folks with the last name of Gillespie. They could be in your family tree.
Good luck in all of your searches.
