Hi, James:
The earliest Uel in my database was b.c. 1785, and was the son of John and Marie
Hardin Richie who settled in the Natchez,
Adams Country, MS area. John was a brick mason from TN. They did have a son named William b. about 1790, and I believe that John's father was named William (wife unk.), who had John, Thomas, and
Elijah. This, I have not proven. I have no other information on John's son, William, but it is very possible that he named a son
Ewell (Euell, Huell, Uel,
Ewell, Joel, you name it) after his brother Uel (my line, who married Rebecca
Roberts), and this would be well worth your pursuing. There was a
Ewell Richey who served in the Confederacy, and mine would be a little old for that, but records show that his wife, Rebecca, applied for a pension, so I guess it was mine. I think I do, however, remember coming across another
Ewell born sometime before the 1890s, and that could well be yours.
I wish I could be of more help to you and I wish you the best on your quest. Try going to usgenweb.com if you haven't already, and see what you can find. Good luck with your search!
My Ewell married but once, Rebicca Elizabeth
Ellis c. 1832 in St. Landry
Parish,
LA, and they bore 10 children. Ewell (grandson of Uel) lived until after the 1850
LA census in and around St. Landry (later Allen)
Parish, and some of his descendants live there today.
