Hi,

In addition to what has already been posted, I found the following on the Shaver family:

"Crowley Post-Signal" - Mrs. Sue Shaver died 8/19/1905 at age 50. [1901-1905]

Marriages in Acadia Parish......
[1] Elba Shaver m. 3/16/1896 Joseph Z. Milstead #01187
[2] Edna Shaver m. 1/26/1902 Leland S. Clark #02661
[3] Bettie Shaver m. 6/13/1909* William A. Keller #5982
[4] Fanny O. Shaver m. 2/21/1910 Tom Fortner #5887
* I don't know why Bettie is shown as being single in 1910.

Leland & Edna Clark
[1] Mira/Myra
[2] Rhanis [female]
[3] Royce I. [male]
[4] Climer S./Clymer [male]

Tom and Fanny Fortner
[1] Miran [female]
[2] Mable

I also found the 1850 census in Lancaster, SC. It reads:
J.M. Shaver 40
G 48
W.J. 20 [f]
M. 19 [f] likely Mary [see below]
B.D. 18 [m] likely Benjamin [named after grandfather ?]
W.K. 16 [m]
R.A. 15 [f] Rhoda Adeline [m. James Elmer Bailey]
M.J. 13 [m] in 1870 he was a junior and in 1880 he was listed as Mathew J. - therefore, he and the father were evidently James Mathew. In 1860 the second child should read Mathew James. James, Jr. married J.J. Mackey and they had two children, Frank M. and Lillie E. By 1880, the wife was deceased.
H.C. 10 [f] likely Caroline from 1860
J.M. 7 [m] John
A.E. 4 [f] Emeline from 1860 - Agnes E. from 1880
E. 72 [f] servent

I also found that the mother was Grace Kirk [from rootsweb]

The second child, Mary, married Duran Bailey and lived next to her parents in 1860. The Bailey family moved to Mississippi and by 1870 Duran had died. His wife and three girls [Olivia, Margaret F.(Fannie) and Nancy C.(Caroline)] were living with Mary's brother, John in Choctaw Co., MS. Ancestry.com picked up John's last name as Shaner, but the original document shows that a "v" was inserted above the "n". So, you can find him on the 1870 census by typing in "John Shaner". By 1880, he is married to Susan. I did not find a marriage record, but not all marriage records are on the Internet.

In 1840, there were two listings for Shaver in Lancaster Co. They were Benjamin [60-70] and J.M. I feel sure that Benjamin was the father of James M. Shaver. In 1830 and 1820, Benjamin was the only Shaver in Lancaster Co. In 1810, there were a Henry, Sr. and a Henry, Jr. In 1800 there was a Benjamin and a Henry. In 1830, besides Benjamin, there were 3 males and 6 females in the household.

In 1880 Mary Bailey is in Montgomery Co., MS. With her are Cally Champion [27 SC SC SC] and her son William [2 MS MS SC]. Cally was a widow. I believe her to be Nancy Caroline, Mary's youngest daughter.

Now, you have John M. [likely Mathew] Shaver on the 1850 & 1860 census records for SC, 1870 & 1880 records for MS and 1900 & 1910 records for LA. I didn't find him in 1920 and I didn't find a death record.

I hope this helps. Good luck with your research.

Cheryl

Thank you so much for all this information.I am trying to prove a connection between Frank Shaver listed on the 1910 Vernon Parish census altho he has his father as born in Mississippi and the family of John M Shaver.I am from a different Shaver family those of Bossier Parish and there are some who think that Frank Shaver is of this family due to the simular names but acually I knew my mothers Uncle Frank and know he was childless. Thanks again.

Sorry I see its listed as Shavers I have never seen a family name with so many different spellings my grgrandfather John S Shaver was listred as Shaner in his civil war record. This 1910 census has Frank Shavers who married the widow Mary J Craft in 1903 and their children are the last three on the census .After Frank died the widow Mary married an Otto Shultz and moved to Texas. I don't suppose he is connected to Johm M Shaver as looks like he was born 1871.A grandson of this Frank still lives in Anacoco La but dosen't know anything said after his mom and dad divorced he had no contact with any Shaver.I haven't found any Mississippi Shaver he could be connected to

Hi,

Like you, I don't find a connection with the Frank Shaver in Vernon Parish and your John M. Shaver. John did have a nephew named Frank M. Shaver who was born in 1869. However, I found him in SC from 1870 until 1920. The Frank in Vernon Parish may have been the son of John Shaver who was in Angelina Co., TX in 1880. There was so much misinformation given for ages and places of birth when the census records were taken. Sometimes it makes it difficult to trace families from one place to another.

In my search, I did find that John M. Shaver's older brother W.K. Shaver [on the 1850 census] was actually William K. Shaver and he was in Pickens Co., Alabama in 1860 and 1880. I didn't find him in 1870, but he was apparently in Pickens County. By 1900, he was in Collin Co., TX and by 1920, he and his wife [both in their 80s] were living in Wichita Falls, Wichita Co., TX with their son, James T. and his family. I didn't find William in 1910, but James and his family were in Wichita Falls. I found a W.K. Shaver who died in Wichita Co. on 11/1/1928 and I assume it is that W.K. Shaver. His age was not given.

Thats the problem the John Shaver on the 1880 Angelina census(s/o Alfred Shaver and grandson of Peter Shaver of the Bossier Parish Shaver's) is my gr grandfather his daughter Ada was my grmother. Her brother Frank is not the Frank on the 1910 Vernon Parish but I have had a lot of Queries about him this Frank Shaver died in the early fifties childless my mother his neice knew him so the 1910 Vernon Parish Frank isn't related as far as I know. Thanks for the help.

If that's the case, then you are not related to the John M. Shaver from Acadia Parish and the Shavers from Lancaster Co., SC. It seems your Shavers came from Missouri.
