Where to send for Marriage Record from 1940's in New Orleans since Katrina?

Can anyone tell me if marriage records from the 1940's are available since Katrina and if so, where I could try to find one? I have very little information to go on - in fact, only the name of the groom...and I am not sure what Parish the marriage would have occurred in - but I have reason to believe that a marriage occurred in New Orleans sometime between 1940 and 1946...and I am desperate to try to find the record. I would appreciate any and all help. Thank you.

SOMEONE ASKED????
Was Lloyd Traigle any relation to Norman Traigle?

The late Norman Traigle was a friend of my nephew and he died at a young age (maybe in his 20's). My nephew is about 60 now and Norman was about the same age. They all lived off Palm Street area. Either Norman or his father was an opera singer. That is all I know. Just curious.

You might try browsing the message boards for the Mississippi River parishes (counties) in NE Louisiana: East and West Carroll, Madison, Tensas, and Concordia parishes. I've seen plantations mentioned by name in Tensas Parish posts, for instance. Is this what you mean? However, modern-day Delhi is in Richland Parish, west of Madison.
--June

It has been awhile but wanted to follow up, some time ago you searched the westbank for an obit around 1957/58 for Loyd J Traigle that was killed by a bus, had no luck.
Based upon some additional information, it seems that Loyd was in fact killed in Baton Rouge, not by a bus but in a bar. Still have not found the westbank grave.
All of his siblings have passed away, so information is scarce.
If anyone has archives of the Advocate and would do an obit lookup, it would be appreciated.

My great grandmother's mom was a choctow Indian, but I understood that she was from washington parish (Franklinton, LA) area and then settled in Tangipahoa Parish (near Folsom and Husser, LA). My great grandmother's father was a Cherokee Indian.

Thanks for the info.

This is my grandmother. I am looking for birth records, etc. Her parents were Henry Gusman, Gussman, Gusmann I've tracked him down) and her mother was Louise Oneal (tracked her down as well). Louise was Henry's 2nd wife, his first wife was Mary or perhaps Jennie Mary Morgan.

We have no documentation. Her birthday is 4/18/1920. She was born in LA, possibly on an island that no longer exists. Her sister (by Louise) was Amelia and there was a brother she called Buck. We're not sure if that is a brother by her mother Louise or a half brother.

She married Peter W (or Winnwood) Provost before 1938. She had 4 boys, Peter, Stanislaus, Cyrus, and Thomas (my dad). We don't have birth certs for my dad or his brothers.

Thank you!

I know very little, but can tell you that he was here c.July 1945 as my father was born April 1946. Kathleen was in the army at the time, but we dont know where. Another family member remembers meeting Joe in Chester, and Kathleen was based in Carlile at some point.

Unfortunately that is all we have to work with. Except that there was talk of native american blood, but we are not really sure what that means. I have been using GI Trace and have narrowed my search to 5 possibilities, but without any further info I am really struggling to narrow further.

Any help gratefully received, I am not a particlarly seasoned researcher, so very much learning 'on the job'

Tracie

You will probably want to give her all the information that you can, such as his race, for example.

I am searching for my paternal grandfather, but I have very little information as my biological father was offspring of an association with a GI during WWII, and information is therefore limited. I am posting this in the hope that someone in Louisiana my recognise some of the pieces and help me put them together. The information I have is:

Name Joseph (Joe) Thibodeaux
dob C 1924 (?) real guess but that is the age of paternal grandmother
posted in the UK around June/July 1945, possibly in or around Carlile or Chester
Knew Kathleen Shackleton (paternal grandmother)

If any of the above is familiar please get in touch, it would be unreal to be able to put a picture to such scant info, and would love to know what Joe was like.

Thanks

Tracie Gray

The Valence Cemetery is on Valence St. between Daneel and Saratoga Streets. I don't know of any map of that cemetery. You might want to check with the city cemetery office. It is a city owned cemetery and their office is in the Carrollton Cemetery 1701 Hillary St.

Yes, it does. Thank you very much. Especially, the information on lucinda Gates. She was my grandfathers mother. The current information I did have quite a bit of it from 1900 going forward. I simply have no information regarding my grandfathers relatives or parents.

I am searching for any relatives of Dave and Frank Young. Dave Young is my grandfather and he was born in Nov 11,1894 in Greenwood Lousiana. His parents names were Lucindy Gates and Frank Young. I am have been unsuccessful in locating any of the Youngs. Supposedly my Grandfather Dave Young and his brother Frank Young escaped out of Lousiana into Texas. They resided in the Panola, Carthage, Athens, Pine hill, Longbranch area. As told my uncles only child whom is still living, She stated that there were more siblings which were still in lousiana at the time that her Dad Frank young jr and my grandfather arrived in Texas. Supposedly one of the brothers name was Gilmore and possibly a sister named Sally Jane young. Any information would be very much appreciated.

I am looking for Lloyd Brandon Snell. It could be Brandon Lloyd Snell. His parents were Aubrey Worth Snell and Pauline Hooper. He was born in 1936 and died in 1975, I know he served in the Army. The only thing I can find is the SS death index file. If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

New Orleans Public Library's Obituary Index has a Justine Friess - date of death September 7, 1967. Her obituary would be in the Times Picayune Sept. 8, 1967 page 2, column 4. I will be going to the library some time next week, if you would like me to look it up for you.
