Please, I need assistance tracing the origins of my family name, Sobert, into Louisiana, from Canada, France, possibly Germany. . I have Andre Sobert (no birthdate, probably late 1700's or early 1800)marrying (no date) Marie Anne Dubois (b about 1802). They had a son, Jean Marie (Maurice?)Sobert, b 1830, marrying Marie Clemance Fremin 17 June 1867 in Labadieville, Assumption Parish, LA. I believe they spent their lives in and around the parishes of Assumption, Ascension, Lafourche, and possibly the German Coast.

Could possibly have lived in Iberville Parish (only a guess).

Thanks for any help.

Hello! I was wondering if by any chance u would have an actual copy of an Ortego family tree. All I know of my line goes back about three generations. I only know up to my great grandfather named Edward John Ortego (the name of his father) but apparently he changed it to John Edward Ortego because supposedly the father left them when they were young and he did it in spite of his father. The line comes from Ville Platte. Could u be of assistance please?

searching for my maternal Grandfather from France' Basque Country Mr. Josu (Jose or Josh) Barreneche Etchéverri

I am searching for my maternal grandfather C. Josú (Jose or Josh) Barreneche Etchéverri (b. circa 1918-1922) of the French Basque Country side.
Everyday of my life I remember my grandfather, an affluent and educated gentleman who lived with his legitimate wife and four daughters when he had an indiscretion with my maternal grandmother, Ms. Francisca "Pachita" Pimentel Rangel, resulting that she would give birth to a girl in 1957; who is my dear mother, Maria Josefa Martha Pimentel who will be turning 56 years young this March 1st 2013.

I in my 33 years of life, I remember great details my mother shared with me as she coped with the abandonment and neglect caused by her Biological father. Which is why I too am passionate about locating my maternal grandfather, said to be from the French side of Basque Country, as was/is his brother Emilio Barreneche Etchéverri (b. circa 1918-1922) who both FLED the lands where they owned a Ranch (or Hacienda) of "Huatzimitiro"just outside the small village of Pueblo Nuevo in the State of Guanajuato in the country of México, North America.

My grandmother Francisca "Pachita" Pimentel Rangel was a humble person of service who worked for the Family on the farm/Hacienda as a Nanny or House-keeper. People from the Town say that she and the married Head of the Hacienda had a Love affair, while others say she was taken advantage of. Whatever the case, it is not important now; what does matters is that my mother was born without a Father, the example or support of either parents. And was raised by her grandmother, Juana Rangel, until my mother married very young to my Father, Ezequiel, at a Catholic Church in the same Pueblo Nuevo, Guanajuato, México.
To date, my mother is a person devoted to God and Jesus Christ as the true Church and not the false Church that lacked in the hearts of her father or his legitimate wife, Maria Del Carmen Aldave, of the Basque Country side from Spain. Their four known daughters are (Marta Barreneche, Mirentxu 'Mirenchu' Barreneche, MariCarmen Barreneche and Teresa "Teresita" Barreneche -- all foreigners who renounce the use of the Treasury Huatzimitiro in 1958 as it was recorded in the Mexican Government thus:

(08-08-69 Agreement on agricultural inafectabilidad of the land formed by a fraction of the so-called Huatzimitiro, in Pueblo Nuevo, Gto., owned by C. Josu Barreneche Echeverri.)(17)
Outside a seal with the coat of arms, which says: United States Mexicans-Presidency of the Republic.
SEEN the record of agricultural inafectabilidad of the rustic property consisting of a fraction of the so-called Huatzimitiro, located in the municipality of Pueblo Nuevo, in the State of Guanajuato, owned by C. JosÚ Barreneche Echeverri; and

WHEREAS:
By letter dated July 17, 1958, the Lord JosÚ Barreneche Echeverri as the owner requested the Declaration of inafectabilidad for the mentioned property, whose surface area is 106.70-56 temporary hectares, equivalent to 53.35-28 hectares of irrigation, within the following borders: to the North, small properties, and river of through; to the South, ejido Mosqueda's Ferris wheel; to the East, ejido Mosqueda Ferris wheel and to the West, ejido Pueblo Nuevo and properties of C. Emilio Barreneche. The petitioner proved to the satisfaction of property rights over that property and referred the respective plans. The corresponding agricultural delegation believed in favorable sense and the General Directorate of agricultural Inafectabilidad and livestock Department of land Affairs and colonization in its subsequent checks have come to establish that agricultural problem related to the property in question there is no. In the present case are satisfied the requirements upheld Article 294 of the agrarian code into force and as the aforementioned property has a surface that does not exceed the limits that designates the article 104 of the same law, the undersigned, President of the Mexican United States, with support in the invoked provisions and articles 33 of the aforementioned body of laws and 27 of the Constitution politics in the countryIt wishes to make the following
AGREEMENT:
FIRST.-reported inafectable for the effects of endowment and large communal land or creation again Center of agricultural population, the surface of 106.70-56 Hs. (six hundred hectares, seventy areas, fifty-six centiares) temporary, equivalent to 53.35-28 p.m. (fifty-three acres, thirty-five, twenty-eight centiares) irrigation, which integrate the rustic venue made for a fraction of the so-called Huatzimitiro, with the close noted in the preceding recital, located in the municipality of Pueblo Nuevo, in the State of Guanajuato, owned by C. JosÚ Barreneche Echeverri; being expressly understood that if the beneficiary also possesses or acquires property in other surfaces that added up to what is here considered to pass the limit the law designates as inafectable, these surpluses can be used to meet agricultural needs.

SECOND.-this agreement should be published in the Official Journal of the Federation, as well as the newspaper official of the Government of the State of Guanajuato; Enroll in the national agrarian registry and issued the respective certificate.
Given in the Palace of power Executive of the Union, in Muxico, Federal District, to the nine days of the month of June of the year one thousand nine hundred and sixty-nine-Gustavo Diaz Ordaz-header-President constitutional for the United States Mexicans-implemented: Norberto Aguirre Palancares-header-head of the Department of land Affairs and colonization.)

I have several photographs my maternal grandfather's wife and of their four known daughters, with three of the photographs taken in London after they FLED the Hacieda Huatzimitiro -- and emailed by the daughters to an employee of the Hacienda.

I appreciate all help you can offer to locate my beloved grandfather who I would love to know more of. The mentioned are merely facts and not to hurt his character or that of his family, but as I am limited to their whereabouts this is the best I can do with the resources he has left us with.

(Josú Barreneche Etchéverri's grandson)

jbecheverri@gmail.com

http://forums.mundia.com/localities.northam.mexico.general/8...

http://jbecheverri.blogspot.com

My cousin and I have spent a lot of time on Bosman Hayes family. We have found that Bosman was married 1st to Martha Ivey (not second), then to Jane Forman. His two eldest children are by Martha Ivey. We are presently in D.C. researching at the DAR Library and have been here for the past week. Most of our time has been spent in the SW LA section researching this family, and this is what we are still finding. We are searching for some Revolutionary War service for Bosman or his father, William, but we haven't found it. Looked at the Galvez Expedition today to see if he served in that, but couldn't find him there.

Baker or Backar - A deceased Louisiana war veteran needs your help.

A deceased Louisiana war veteran needs your help.

I have been working to acquire a free bronze memorial plaque from the American Veterans Administration for Mr. Frederick Charles Baker, also recorded as “Fridirick Backar”, “Fredrick Backar”, and “Fridrich Backar/Backer” was born in 1849, in Prussia, Germany; as is listed in one Australian German website under the name of ‘Bakar’.
He was a Northern Territory Australian American Civil War veteran, whose gravesite remains unmarked; but after 10 years the American Veterans Administration in the United States have "changed" the rules. They will no longer accept a request from a cemetery, but 'now' demand acknowledgement from a descendant to act on their behalf.

Frederick Charles Baker, was an old American Civil War soldier and it is believed that Frederick Baker after migrating to the United States, enlisted in the 2nd Louisiana Infantry and was mustered into Company “H” from December 31, 1862 until February 28, 1863; spending much extra time detailed with Major Waller, assigned to the Confederate States Shoe Department in Richmond, Virginia.

After being discharged Frederick Charles Baker migrated to Australia seeking his fortune. There Baker was married to a lady named Isabella Maud and they had a son. Frederick Charles Baker’s son, Frederick Daniel, was born September 20, 1920, later became a Petty Officer in the Royal Australian Navy aboard the H.M.A.S. Melville; and died at 22 years of age on November 10, 1942.

While Frederick Baker was digging for tin, silver and gold on the Umbrawarra tin field in Northern Territory, about 190km south-southeast of Darwin and 90 kilometres north of Katherine, an epidemic of yellow fever broke out on the Umbrawarra tin field, and being a recent arrival at Umbrawarra in Northern Territory in 1909, he did not wanting to depart the diggings and therefore did not go for treatment when he fell ill with the fever; only deciding to go into the settlement of Pine Creek for treatment when he was so ill he became unable to work; , dying of yellow fever at 68 years of age at 11;25 AM on a Wednesday morning, July 28, 1909, at the Pine Creek Courthouse in Pine Creek, Northern Territory.

Frederick Baker was buried in the Pine Creek Cemetery in Pine Creek, Northern Territory, Australia; without a headstone.

If anyone knows of ”any” descendant of Mr. Frederick Baker, also recorded as “Fridirick Backar”, “Fredrick Backar”, and “Fridrich Backar/Backer”, they are asked to please contact James Gray immediately; at jamesmgray@bigpond.com, phone 07 3801 3400 or by post at 11 Corndale Street, Loganholme, Qld., Au., 4129.

If you can find one of his descendants, we can move forward with acquiring a free marker for this Australian veterans gravesite.

Sincerely,

James M. Gray, Cmdr.
Sons of Confederate Veterans, Inc
SCV Camp 2160, Australia

www.acwv.info

Hello, my grandmother was a Duvernay from new Orleans. I read once that the king of France sent brothers from this family to Lousiana. I can't recall where I read this. It said that all the duvernays were decendents of those brothers. Do you know anything about this?

Gosman and Gusman are both of jewish ancestry, but they are ashkenazi, if my memory serves correct. The lake Charles jewish community would have more info on that. As for as the spanish; any name ending in ...es, ...ez is of spanish jewish origin. I.E. mendez, mendes, dominguez, domingues, so on so forth, before the french there were spanish in louisiana, and before them there was native americans. it is a very intensive study but its worth it every step of the way. Some louisiana french names such as Breaux, La Salle are also of jewish ancestry. LeJeune(probably not written correctly) was also found in new orleans synagogue records.

Hi Joan,
I am from Louisiana but now living in Colorado and helping a recently acquainted "cousin" in Denver search for her family. (We are related through the Keller family albeit a few generations back) on the German Coast. It is very difficult to do this long distance research.

I came across your post on Henry Buquoi and Charlotte Thenevar and these are two people that she is looking for in her family line. She has no information on this couple other than their names and that Charlotte came to Louisiana in 1719 at age 21. My thought is she was shipped to Louisiana under John Law's campaign when the company was "sweeping" the streets of France. so, any information you have referenced would be most helpful and appreciated. If you do not want to post it here, please email me at msebeth1957@hotmail.com.

Thank You from me and my "new found cousin", Denise,
Mari

Does anyone have information on I.E. Gonichon (draftsman, surveyor, mapmaker) who arrived in Louisiana about 1726? He worked with Ignace Francois Broutin and made some of the early maps of the area.

I'm also looking for information on Jean Ganichon. I found a record of a "Mrs. Jean Ganichon (alias Decoudreau nee Josephine)" who was buried in St. Louis Cemetery #1 in 1838 but so far, that's the only information I've found.

http://files.usgwarchives.net/la/orleans/cemeteries/louis/00...

(There is a John T. Ganichon named in a law suit brought against Manuel de Lisa in 1797. Am not sure if he's related.)

Any information on these early Gonichon/ Ganichon settlers would be appreciated. Thanks, Lisa

Hi and Thank you
I saw this census and this is the Aspasie Frilot I am looking for but I do not believe Nastasie and Aspasie are one in the same. Aspasie Frilot Born abt 1856 And Sennette ? born abt 1863/64 were married under the names Barthelany Sennett and Aspasie Frelow(Incorrect last name for Aspasie and Possible incorrect spelling of Barthelany aslo) They were on the death record of one Child Arnold Sennette Born 1883 who died in Lousiana abt 1920. They had other children my ggmother was Maggie Marguerite Sennette she married Robert Picou and also Louis Jean Prospere Verdun. My grand Mother was named after her Maggie Marguerite but some how she ended up being Maggie Hons. She was born 1910.

DeLisle is small community in southern Mississippi. This area was settled in 1712 by the French as a part of Colonial Louisiana and was called "Wolf Town" until 1884. Jean Baptiste SAUCIER was the first European to settle this area. A commemorative plaque marks the location of his former property along the northern bank of the Wolf River near the point where it empties into Bay St Louis. Philippe Saucier filed a claim to this land in 1790. Early Spanish and French families included Saucier, Nicaise, Lizana, Netto , Dedeaux, Cuevas/Quave, Dubuisson, Grelot.

Francois Saucier

Francois Saucier was born in Mobile about 1712. His father Jean Baptiste Saucier died about 1716 and his mother--Marie Gabrielle Savary (Savarit)--remarried twice in the next five years: first to Pierre Vifvareinne (Vivarenne) about 1717 and to Jean Baptiste Sansot dit La Grange in 1719. The family moved to New Orleans about 1722. Francois drew one of the early maps of New Orleans in 1728 (Archives des Colonies, FR) when he was just a teenager. The map is still in existence.

About 1730, Francois's older brother, Henri, went to Illinois and, while there, he married Barbe LaCroix. Later other brothers followed, including Francois. Francois was the engineer who was commissioned to rebuild Fort de Chartres.

Francois died 26 Feb. 1757 at Fort de Chartres, Illinois Territory.

He married Marie Jeanne Fontaille on 25 Nov. 1743 Mobile. They had six children:

Jean François (1743-1821)
Mathieu (1745- )
Cézar Philippe {twin} (1748-c. 1749)
Marie {twin} (1748-1803)
Jean Baptiste (1751-1808)
Jeanne Félicité (1754-1816)

I hope this helps anyone researching this family!
