Classification: Query
Surnames: Hedges, Everett, Dunnavant, Walker, Burkley,
My GG Grandfather was DeWitt Franklin Hedges born 6 Jul 1848 near Frankfort, Kentucky. He was orphaned at the age of 8 possibly in Ohio and then served in the Civil War under an alias name "James Jackson" due to being underage and not wanting his Uncle to find him. He lost his arm at Jonesboro, GA according to Civil War documents from the National Archives. He was a telegraph operator for the Nickle Plate Road and eventually became the train station master in Kokomo and Noblesville, IN. He died in Noblesville, IN on 11 Dec. 1928.

His father was William R. Hedges, a Col. who was an Antibellum Planter married to Pheobe Everett. I do not have any other information on either of these two 3rd Great Grandparents other than they left DeWitt orphaned as a young boy. Does anyone have birth, death and burial dates and locations for these two? Any information on their ancestors?

My records show that Dewitt Franklin Hedges married twice:
1. Caroline (Carrie, Carolyn or Corine) Dunnavant b. Abt. Aug 1854 m. 14 Jun 1869 in Sidney, Ohio and d. Unknown.

They had 10 children with my Great Grandmother being Alice Albertine Hedges b. 18 Aug 1875 in Fortville, Hancock Co. IN, d. 6 Apr 1910 in Kokomo, Howard Co. IN. She married Mathias Polk Walker b. 22 Mar 1874 Kokomo, Howard Co., IN m. 17 Mar 1895 Noblesville, Hamilton Co., IN d. 18 Mar 1954 Kokomo, Howard Co., IN.

2. Carlene B. Burkley b. Abt 1859 Rush Co., IN m. 25 May 1896 in Kokomo, IN d. 11 Dec 1928 in Noblesville, IN.
