Mrs. Alene Gardner Schnapf, 82, of Slaughters, KY passed away at 12:20 P.M. Friday, December 26, 2008 at the Princeton Health & Rehab Center in Princeton, KY.

She was born October 1, 1926, in Chevy Chase, Maryland to the late William and Alene French Gardner. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Marion Schnapf and one son, John Edward Schnapf.

She is remembered by many for her hospitality, generosity, and wonderful cooking, especially her homemade bread. Her legacy and pride is her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by eight children, Frank Schnapf and his wife, Barbara of Madisonville, KY, Marian Kovatchitch and her husband Joe of Herkimer, NY, Diane Garrard and her husband Tommy of Poole, KY, Jennifer Gobin and her husband Mark of Providence, Jane Cates and her husband Don of Franklin, TN, Amy Law and her fiancé Marc of Nashville, TN, David Schnapf of Missouri, Damian Schnapf and his wife Amy of Lexington, KY. Eighteen grandchildren, Kerrie Moore, Frank Schnapf Jr., Jason Kovatchitch, Emily Evans, Courtney Crossley, Erin Kovatchitch, John and Jacques Garrard, Christin Jackson, Snapper and Graham Gobin, Bryce and Jackson Cates, Elliott, Abbye and Sarah Law, Alexandra and Elizabeth Schnapf. Eleven great-grandchildren, William Moore, Marcus and Jalynne Kovatchitch, Dylan and Camryn Crossley, Connor Evans, Clay and Chance Garrard, Juliana Jackson, Riley and Case Gobin; one sister, Jackie Carson of Scottsdale, AZ and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, December 29, 2008, at Christ The King Catholic Church in Madisonville with Father Jerry Calhoun officiating. Burial will follow at St. Louis Cemetery in Henderson, KY.

Friends may call on Sunday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and on Monday from 11:00 A.M until 12:30 P.M. at the funeral home.

Rosary service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Sunday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Frank Schnapf Jr., Jason Kovatchitch, John and Jacques Garrard, Snapper and Graham Gobin, Bryce and Jackson Cates and Elliott Law.
