I have found out definitely this happened. It is in John D.Preston's book "The Civil War in the Big Sandy Valley". It is footnoted when it mentions two Confederates killed and referring to that note in the back it explains their names and where he got the info. Interestingly, in the August, 2011 issue of the Kentucky Explorer magazine someone wrote a story of a lady from Magoffin County, Ky who rode to Louisa and warned of the Rebels coming to Paintsville. A wonderful story- although it led to my greatgreatgrandfather's early demise.
